I want to start off with this tidbit: Miss Michigan, Rima Fakih, made history Sunday night after becoming the first Arab-American — and Muslim — to be crowned Miss USA. Good for her. I saw her picture and I thought she was lovely.

So, Heroes is cancelled. No 13 episodes to wrap things up, no nothing. It is dead, dead, super dead. Though someone is stirring up a rumor of maybe a farewell TV movie.

Also dead are Law & Order (Original flavor), Flashforward, Mercy, Trauma, Scrubs, Romantically Challenged and Better off Ted.

Human Target and Lie to Me are coming back but they're coming back into Fox's Friday timeslots of death so recently filled by Sarah Connor and Dollhouse. So, while they're coming back, we already know how Fox feels about it, I'd gather.

Also interesting for Fox is that American Idol is slipping in the ratings, sometimes slowly and sometimes drastically vs last year. It is about a total of 10% down from last year. Next year the performance show will be 90 minutes and the results will be 30. They also seem to have a problem keeping judges around...

Here is what Fox will be showing for next season: http://www.comingsoon.net/news/tvnews.php?id=66097 I'm interested in Terra Nova.

And here is NBC's schedule: http://www.comingsoon.net/news/tvnews.php?id=66076 I'll probably give The Cape and The Undercovers a shot. Not sure about The Event.

Jeff Probst announced that the 21st season of Survivor will be filmed in Nicaragua. I don't watch but I know people who do. I /would/ watch, though if this were in like... the arctic or the Himalayas or.. I don't know. Somewhere not tropical and lush.

In non-TV news, Warner Bros. is trying to discredit the Siegel and Shuster families' lawyer in this whole Superman rights deal. They're trying to show that he's manipulated them into the position they're in now.

Did I mention that The Coen's were remaking True Grit? I'm pretty sure I did at some point but in case I didn't, there you go. Here is a picture of Jeff Bridges on set: http://www.bleedingcool.com/2010/05/17/jeff-bridges-gets-his-eye-patch-on-in-true-grit

Disney has announced that it will theatrically release Studio Ghibli's Tales from Earthsea (Gedo Senki) in the US on August 13th under its Touchstone Pictures banner.

Soooo. Disney announced, the other day, that they were making a 20,000 League Under The Sea picture with David Fincher in negotiations to direct. A few days later FOx announced that /they/ were making a 20,000 League Under The Sea picture with Ridley and Tony Scott's production company and were looking at Timur Bekmambetov to direct. Ultimately, I think this will depend on who gets off the ground first as I can't see them both coming out at the same time.

THR says Zoe Saldana is in early negotiations to star in "Colombiana", a new tale from Luc Besson. To quote from Latino Review: "The story is about a young girl who becomes an assassin after witnessing the murder of her parents as a youth. She's a hitman by day by also spends her personal time trying to track down the one responsible for killing her parents." Well, sign me up. I'm there.

The Wachowskis are seek financing for a 'Hard-R' war movie. Seems it is about an American soldier and an Iraqi soldier who have some sort of a romance. Sounds interesting at a basic level, at least.

Wooo hooo!

Fox has renewed Human Target for a second season. Either it did well enough or they're trying to get something out of Warner Brothers. Doesn't matter to me - I get more of a show I like!

DreamWorks has acquired the screen rights to Monsterpocalypse (kaiju-themed collectible miniatures game or so a quick serach tells me) and they're trying to shop it out to Tim Burton.

"Universal Soldier IV". Yeah. I hadn't realized there had been a third one...

Sony is making Rollercoaster Tycoon into a movie. Wheee?

Cameron said that he estimates it will take about three years to make the Avatar sequel and that an announcement will be made about the date soon.

There is a trailer out there for Easy A. The synopsis is - After a little white lie about losing her virginity gets out, a clean cut high school girl (Emma Stone) sees her life paralleling Hester Prynne's in "The Scarlet Letter."

Saban has grabbed back the rights to the Power Rangers, so expect something to come from that.

Another week another Batman casting rumor. Something about Billy Zane talking to Christopher Nolan. I'd much rather seen Zane in a new Superman movie... Heh. MISS TESMACHER!!!

Much the same, people are still insisting that Ghostbusters 3 is going to happen but... well... nothing is going forward yet. Just a lot of people bitching and another set promising.

Apparently, someone somewhere has decided today is officially "Top Gun Day". This means I must use Top Gun quotes for fun. This is lucky, because, well, a number of them work all over the place.
It is the annual 'is my favorite show renewed time' again.

CSI fans: Marg Helgenberger says that she hasn't been asked back yet. ‘CSI: Miami‘ is going to get a bit of tweaking since it is now occasionally losing its time slot to ABC’s surging ‘Castle.' 'CSI: NY' is not going well against 'Criminal Minds' and likely isn't going to be cancelled but will probably be moved in the schedule.

Word going around is that 'Chuck' is going to get a 4th season. I love this show. The 3rd season has been something of a mess but it is a mess of the reorienting and reorganizing sort so they can stride forth again. One way or the other, Christopher Lloyd is on this week!

Oddly enough Heroes is ALSO still in contnention for renewal.

NBC is going to launch a comedy called 'Outsourced' based in India. Considering I'm heading to India in about two weeks, this is funny to me already. They've also picked up 'The Event' which is another global conspiracy show and 'Love Bites' which ... sounds a little more interesting for set up if not content. It is an hour-long romantic comedy anthology series featuring three loosely connected, modern stories of love, sex, marriage and dating. Sounds like we'll have something of a rotating cast.

To change topics: The upcoming Batman: Creature Of The Night is Kurt Busiek’s thematic sequel to Superman: Secret Identity for DC Comics.

There is a Planet of the Apes prequel remake coming. My brain is not fully on and I cannot remember what it was called. Rise of the Apes or something like that.

And now! More coffee.

Hrmmmm.

May. 4th, 2010 09:37 am
So Matthew Vaughn isn't directing X-men First Class. Unless he is. There has been a flurry of reports and rumors about how he'll never do it or he's back in negotiations now but really, this time he's done with Fox forevers. I would love for him to make an X-men movie. I loved Stardust and Kick-Ass both in entirely different ways.

There is more information coming out about Fallout: New Vegas. Looks like fun! The reviewers are saying it feels more like Fallout 2 than 3 but at the same time, there is flavors of both. I really can't wait. It'll be fun.

NBC announced that it was picking up the new J.J.Abrams series ‘Undercovers.’ The premise should be a little familiar to you - a husband and wife who have retired from the CIA and launched a catering company find themselves pulled back into the world of international espionage when a colleague disappears. Now, the part of this that is groundbreaking (but really shouldn't be in 2010) is that both of the leads are black. (They're not African American because Gugu Mbatha-Raw, who you may recognize as Tish Jones from Doctor Who is English and Boris Kodjoe was born in Austria.) I'm seriously looking forward to this awesomeness.

Speaking of JJ Abrams and awesome, look for something of his that has been kept VERY quiet to show up in trailers in front of Iron Man 2. Word is, whatever it is will be called "Super 8". I have some thoughts about that but I'm looking forward to being surprised myself.

I love this trailer. I LOVE IT.
So, it looks like Fox is no longer interested in an American version of Trochwood. No way, you think Fox might have been scared off by Torchwood? You have to wonder if anyone had watched an episode before proposing the idea. Some places say it is 'on hold' and some say is has been cancelled all together.

Archie Comics is introducing its first gay character later this year. His name is Kevin Keller and his first appearance will be in Veronica #202 if you're interested in picking it up.

Disney is tossing around the idea of a Wizard of Oz prequel focusing on how the Wizard got to Oz in the first place. That, I think, at least has the possibility of being an interesting story. Sam Mendes and Adam Shankman are vying for the director's chair and it is said that Robert Downey Jr. is interested in playing the wizard.

Marvel Studios is currently taking meetings with writers and directors to work on small scale movies based on some of their third tier characters. ($20-$40 million vs like $150 million) Chud.com (ths site that ran this, pretty solid guys usually) says "Filmmakers are being offered their pick of characters whose names are only familiar to comic fans. Properties like Dr. Strange, Ka-Zar, Luke Cage, Dazzler and Power Pack are among the many that are being tossed around right now. And the attitude seems to be that Marvel is open to bringing any of their characters to the screen at the right price point." A Dazzler movie? Man. I think Dr. Strange and Power Pack (eeee!) would be fantastic.

Word is that a new Friday the 13th: Part 2 is off the table. Interesting. They must not have a lot of faith in the movie doing well....

There are a few Robin Hood reviews leaking out and they are, for the most part, positive and happy with the result. Cate Blanchet is likely what is going to get me in the theater for this one.

Aw Yeah

Apr. 21st, 2010 11:46 am
"YOUNG JUSTICE is an all-new series produced by Warner Bros. Animation and based upon the characters from DC Comics. In YOUNG JUSTICE, being a teenager means proving yourself over and over – to peers, parents, teachers, mentors and, ultimately, to yourself. But what if you’re not just a normal teenager? What if you’re a teenage super hero? How much harder will it be to prove yourself in a world of super powers, super villains and super secrets? Are you ready to come of age in such a world? Are you ready for life or death rites of passage? Are you ready to join the ranks of the great heroes and prove you’re worthy of the Justice League? The members of Young Justice—Robin, Aqualad, Kid Flash, Superboy, Miss Martian and Artemis—are about to find out."

On Cartoon Network in the 2010-2011 season for at least 26 episodes.

http://www.worldsfinestonline.com/news/images/yjposter.jpg

"Sam Register (Teen Titans, Ben 10, Batman: The Brave and the Bold) is the executive producer. Brandon Vietti (Batman: Under the Red Hood, Superman Doomsday, The Batman) and Greg Weisman (Gargoyles, The Spectacular Spider-Man, W.I.T.C.H.) are the producers."

Awesome.
Glee isn't for everyone, I know it. If you've ever had a liking for a) Madonna, b) cheerleader routines or c) marching bands, I'd watch last night's episode. There was some pretty good stuff in there. That and Santana and Brittany are awesome.

Rumor is there will be word on Batman 3 around July. If it is July, SDCC would make sense, though they did announce The Dark Knight /after/ SDCC originally. Oh and they're already saying no 3D, not a chance 3D.

Leonard Nimoy says that once his Fringe work is done he's retiring from acting.

Word is that Avatar 2 is going to explore the oceans. I'm so thrilled. Really.

Showbiz 411's Roger Friedman reports he talked to director Barry Sonnenfeld, who revealed that Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones are returning as agents J and K, respectively, in Sony's Men in Black 3D. Hrmmmm. Interesting....

Columbia Pictures has hired "United States of Tara" writer Sheila Callaghan to pen a new draft of the screenplay for the feature I Dream of Jeannie. Hoooray?

Oh yeah!

Apr. 20th, 2010 09:08 am

Dude, so sweet. A Marvel vs Campcom game based on the new Street Fighter? Hooray!

What else...?

Oh, so not only is The Hobbit spinning its wheels over the MGM situation, so is the next Bond movie. (They're on the brink of bankruptcy and have been trying to find a buyer for awhile with no good prospects...) No one is really sure how this'll pan out.

Word is, in other video game news, that Stana Katic (otherwise known as Kate Beckett) will be voicing Talia alGhul in the next Arkham Asylum game. There is also word there will be Mr. Freeze.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Alan Cumming has pulled out of "Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark" due to his increased role on the CBS television series, "The Good Wife." This is my totally unsurprised face. This thing is so doomed.

The Wrap reports that Mark Hamill may be directing a feature version of his comic "The Black Pearl." That would be interesting.

This is also interesting:

Paladin: Trailer (Directors cut) from John Allardice on Vimeo.

Looks like it has something to do with Adobe...? Not entirely sure but it looks like fun.

Star Wars is coming to BlueRay sooner than later. It seems before the end of the year but there is no official date yet.

Also on the Star Wars note, it looks like that animated series is going to be post Return of the Jedi. Which is all kinds of interesting.
So, there is a ton about Joss Whedon right now. It seems he's directing (or in final negotiations to direct) The Avengers, is re-writing the script and is /also/ getting a pass at the Captain America script. News on Cap has been slow in coming - casting seemed to take a long time and they're still putting the pieces together. So, either Joss has a lead in to the Avengers he wants to put into the Cap movie, the Cap script sucks or some of both. (At least that is what seems likely to me.)

Now, don't get me wrong, I like Joss but ... The Avengers doesn't really seem to fit his typical style. That and I'm frustrated with how little he's seemingly able to change it up. There was a time when he could take different angles on things but recently, everything seems to have the same plot point trajectory. I'm re-watching Buffy season 5 and 6 and it shows pretty strongly there. I might have to go back further and check.

Speaking of Cap news - British actress Hayley Atwell has been cast as the leading lady Peggy Carter in "Captain America".

Variety reports that USA has ordered two further full seasons of Burn Notice on top of the fourth season which begins broadcast on June 3rd. (16 episodes in season 4, for those paying attention.)

Paramount is /still/ trying to get a Might Mouse movie up and running.

There was a big kerfuffle about a report that Hal's suit in the GL movie might be CG. Well, I think, really, if you do it right, that's a good thing. It is supposed to be ring created, right? At least the first time or two, so giving it that sort of look is a bonus, I'd think, to establishing the abilities and look of the ring's power.

IDW has announced both a D&D comic books series and a new set of Cthulu comics that they'll have coming out this summer. (August and July respectively.)

C2E2 is this weekeng, right now in fact, so I'm sure we'll see a lot of news come out about that this weekend. Already there is something about Marvel killing off Dracula... maybe with the X-men?

Wooo hooo!

Apr. 6th, 2010 09:46 am
Today is new Harry Dresden day! Hooray!

Here is a list of what is cancelled and what is continued into next year on TV: http://www.armchaircommentary.com/2010/04/tv-shows-whats-canceled-whats-saved.html

The Voltron movie is really, really in development hell. It seems we're going to give it a THIRD go around with a THIRD script. Seriously guys, I read one of those scripts and it was pretty good. (No, really.) I'm not sure what you're looking for here.

Lucasfilm Animation said Monday that ‘Star Wars‘ is coming to TV as an animated comedy series. The sitcom is still in development and doesn’t have a title yet. And, really, there are like four different Star Wars TV projects all still heading toward happening some day and really, I'm not looking forward to any of them right now. Even if this new one is with Seth Green. Okay. Maybe just a little.

Harrison Ford may be joining Cowboys And Aliens (directed by John Favreau). Right now this is all rumor but Favreau has teased big casting news and there is a rumor that Ford will be working on a comic book property with a 'hot' director next. Hrmmmm.

It looks like there is an actual draft for a third Batman movie making the rounds. I have NO idea how genuine it is. The rumor mill says Emily Blunt has passed on Captain America because she wants to be a certain feline lady... Hrmmmmm. Lots of rumors.

Kryptonsite has learned: "Alaina Huffman will be returning to Smallville in the show's May 14 season finale, 'Salvation,' as Dinah Lance/The Black Canary." Arg.

Director Sylvain White (a name, I think you should start to be familiar with) has worked on Scott Pilgrim VS The World and now, has expressed his interest in helming an adaptation of the classic "Robotech" animated series. This is another project that has been wandering around out there for awhile without much energy.

What was called "War of Gods" will now be called "Immortals" and will follow Theseus around. Since "Clash of the Titans" did big business with Perseus... Yeah. Wonder how into the myth we're gonna get there. The cast is mostly solid at least: John Hurt, Isabel Lucas, Cavill, Stephen Dorff, Luke Evans, Kellan Lutz, Joseph Morgan, Freida Pinto and Mickey Rourke.

I saw this one on TV and couldn't resist it:

Ahem. IS IT MAY YET?

*blinks*

Mar. 24th, 2010 12:05 pm
Ummm. What?

Gary Marshall says that Jamie Foxx is writing a Laverne and Shirley movie for (wait for it) Jessica Biel and Jennifer Garner. Now, those two are just the ones Gary Marshall says he would want but.... the whole thing is just strange.

The Maleficent movie has found a writer and is continuing to move forward.

Will Smith is looking to choose between The City That Sailed (which sounds pretty cool - about a girl who magically causes the island of Manhattan to sail across the Atlantic to be reunited with her father) and Men in Black 3, which sounds like a lot of fun.

Sony is making an all-CGI "Popeye", with the Avi Arad producing. (Likely 3D as well, because what isn't these days?)

Dimension Films has scheduled an August 19, 2011 release for Robert Rodriguez's Spy Kids 4: All the Time in the World. Okay.

Olivia Munn is featured on the cover of "Complex" magazine's April/May issue and she talks about how she got a completely new role in Iron Man 2. It seems during editing the movie was coming together a little darker than the role they'd filmed for her, so they either made a new role or re-wrote her entirely. I've only seen sections of the interview, so I'm not sure which it is. She did say "Marvel and Jon had to add another character from the Marvel universe to keep me included," though, so it seems like it has been changed entirely.

Scream 4. Wheee? Ehn.

It looks like they're making another go at actually making a Spy Hunter movie. *shrugs*

It seems that in Transformers 3 JohnMalkovich is Sam Witwicky's first boss and Frances McDormand is the National Intelligence Director. Or that's what the rumors and leaks are saying.

Don Murphy's Angryfilms has optioned film rights to "Little Brother" by Cory Doctrow, which could be amazing. If you haven't read the book, I really recommend it. I recommend it especially to those of you who might have children around the age of 10-14 in the nearby area to pass it off to INSTANTLY.

Lots of good books coming out in April. I'm gonna be swamped again. Hooray! Changes by Jim Butcher is at the top of the list.

Hrmmmm.

Mar. 22nd, 2010 09:06 pm
So, it looks like Chris Evans will be Captain America. You would know him as Johnny Storm from the Fantastic Four movies. He was, pretty much, the best part of those movies, so that's something at least. I'm not sure I recommend him as Cap but, hey, he's a solid actor at least.

Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning have joined Robert Pattinson in publicly lobbying for Gus Van Sant to direct "Breaking Dawn". Well. I don't think they'll get Sophia Coppola, so... Hrmmm.

Ronald D. Moore and David Eick say that we will see more of Tauron and some of Geminon before the season end of Caprica.

Warner Bros. Pictures is developing an adaptation of "Bleach". I'm not sure if it is live action or not.

"Chuck" and "House" has hit season lows in the ratings. These are both good shows but it would pain me more to lose "Chuck".

There is totally a strong indication that there will be a Green Lantern animated series of some sort. I really, really, really hope that it is a GLC series if hit happens. Animated Mogo would make very happy.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Christopher McQuarrie has finished his draft of the "Wolverine" sequel. Now, don't get me wrong, I like Logan but I think the "Logan falls in love and the woman dies horribly" show is ... well... This would be the third time, though Mariko doesn't die, they're still irrevocably separated at the end of things. I think I'm going to have to go re-read that soon. They're planning for a 2011 release date.

Speaking for movies at Fox, it seems that they now have the rights to The Shadow. Man, I have mixed feelings here. I loved The Shadow radio drama. I listened to it all the time when we lived in Japan because, well, it was on the military radio station. The movie with Alec Baldwin... well. There were parts I liked but it was really not that great. This kind of lives along side Flash Gordon for me. Cool things that just seem to get worse the more people try to mess with them.

The Avengers will have a cartoon on Disney XD. Not entirely surprising there.

There have been talks about a Tron tv series (also to be shown on Disney XD) as well as two more movies if Legacy does well enough. I'm excited for the movie that is coming but anything beyond that I can't get too hyped for until I see what they've brought to the table in this movie.

I'm gonna let this quote stand alone: "We're moving into the endgame of the show [and] the stakes have moved beyond, ‘Who's Kate going to pick?' and into, ‘Is anyone going to be left alive?,' says executive producer Damon Lindelof to EW. "I hope [viewers are] going to be satisfied with what we're doing, but we're not writing a romance novel here. I understand in seasons past how that was much more relevant. We're not neglecting it, but there's a lot of fish to fry. The elements of the love triangle - Kate's relationship with Jack, her relationship with Sawyer, Sawyer's relationship with Juliet, who's dead - are a huge part of the season. All that stuff is in play."

Also, just in case you weren't sure, there is no Spider-Man casting, no Captain America casting and no true motion on Batman or Superman scripts that has been announced. A lot of rumors out there but nothing solid.
It has been awhile since I've made a big entertainment update, so I'll give it a shot for you. There haven't been a lot of solid meaty this to talk about but some things have popped up, so we'll see.

Are you a fan of Kevin McKidd? Even if you don't watch Grey's Anatomy and have never wanted to watch it, there is an episode comine in March/April called “Suicide Is Painless". Yeah, that's a MASH reference there and it looks like it will be PTSD and Kevin McKidd centered. Rumors are that he kills it, too. He's been nothing but awesome on this show. And can I make mention of how AWESOME the triad of Mark, Callie and Arizona are? They're forming this little tribe of people and I love it. Keep Izzie off the show. It is MUCH better for it.

Supernatural got renewed for a sixth season and then the creator left as he'd told his five season story. So, that'll be all kinds of interesting to see what happens there.

Why wasn’t Kate’s name on the cave wall in Lost? Were there people that made it to the island that weren't candidates? It seems likely that is so but why? Did the MiB have his own candidates?

It seems that the Obama girls are Glee fans and have twisted mom and dad's arms a bit because the stars of Glee have been asked to perform at the White House’s annual Easter Egg Roll.

Columbia Pictures has hired Shane Black (he did Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang and Lethal Weapon) to direct Doc Savage. Which is interesting in a few ways.

Do you watch Caprica? I'm not sure if I like it yet or not - it seems to ride the line between interesting and creepy (and sometimes just overkill) but there is some awesomeness to it - http://www.chicagonow.com/blogs/show-patrol/2010/02/exclusive-caprica-producer-jane-espenson-explains-sam-adamas-tattoos.html I love shows that build mythology.

Warner Brothers bought a controlling interest in Rocksteady. One might recall that there was this video game Rocksteady made last year... Had something to do with a guy in a suit with pointy ears... I have a feeling there will be a lot more to come here. WB and DC Entertainment are making a lot of moves that seem to make sense to me recently.

Buttercup is the newest toy to be introduced in the Toy Story 3 line-up. Yes, she's a unicorn. http://www.latinoreview.com/news/the-character-poster-is-filling-up-for-toy-story-3-9272?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+latinoreview+%28Latino+Review%29

Ian McShane is in negotiations to play the villain (AKA Blackbeard) in "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides," which makes it a HELL of a lot more interesting to me all at once.

According to a report on IGN, Gil Bellows has been cast as Smallville's Maxwell Lord. Huh.

It is confirmed that Paul McGuigan will be working on a show for BBC Scotland written by Grant Morrison and starring Stephen Fry. That's the hell of a combination of people. Paul described it as "If you know Grant's work you might have an idea of what it will be like. It’s like Twin Peaks meets Brigadoon!" There is more at Bleeding Cool if you're interested.

Bruce Willis is talking about a Die Hard 5. There isn't anything solid, yet, I think just press junket talk but... C'mon. Really? Ugh. He's also talking Unbreakable 2, which I'd be a little more interested in but still uncertain about.

Filming has started on The Tourist. This one is about an American tourist (Johnny Depp) who finds his life in danger when a female Interpol agent (Angelina Jolie) uses him as a dupe to flush out an elusive criminal with whom she once had an affair. Because that's all kinds of awesome.

Dietrich Bader will be on Chuck in the second half of the season as some Buy More upper level executive.

Thandie Newton, Jason Isaacs and David Tennant are set to be in "Retreat", reports Screen Daily . The film follows a couple (Newton and Isaacs) who are seeking to rebuild their relationship by taking time out on a remote island but their peace is shattered when they find a man in uniform (Tennant) half-dead who tells them there is a lethal virus killing millions on the mainland. DUN DUN DUN!!!

And.... I think that's it for now.

Hrmmmmm.

Feb. 10th, 2010 10:11 am
The next DC Animated movie (man, they're cranking these out) will be "Batman: Under the Hood" - a storyline I was impartial to in the comics. Here is the important part: According to The Los Angeles Times, Bruce Greenwood will star as Batman, with John DiMaggio as the Joker, Jensen Ackles as the Red Hood and Jason Isaacs as Ra's Al Ghul. Neil Patrick Harris will portray Nightwing.

Woah. Seriously? Jensen Ackles and NPH? There might be a general combustion in fandom. (And I have to say Jason Isaacs as Ra's isn't a bad choice, either.)

Tom Cruise has signed up for Mission Impossible 4! Wheeee?

The producers of Caprica have already contacted Lucy Lawless about reprising her role as D'Anna - which is very confusing timeline wise. Sure, there are ways to make that work (some more elegant than others) but I fear needing a timeline map at some point.
Deadline Hollywood is now reporting that Christopher Nolan has been assigned to try to save the "Superman" franchise - specifically in a mentoring capacity to figure out the best way to proceed. Uh-huh.

Christopher Lloyd will be in an upcoming episode of Chuck. I continue to LOVE the casting on this show.

Halcyon Holding Corp accepted a $29.5 million bid on the Terminator franchise from, you're never going to believe this, the debtholder which pushed it into bankruptcy in the first place, hedge fund Pacificor. So, neither Sony nor Lionsgate got it.

24 is going to the big screen! Rumor is there will be something or other happening in Europe and Jack Bauer must... do whatever it is he does. Will the movie be 24 hours long? How will you keep up the whole 24 idea?

In personal news, chorus practice tonight. I'm hoping I get a better idea of what I'm doing this time. That said, I did enjoy it all last time as well as the long walk to the bus stop after. I just wish I didn't get home quite so late. It is interesting that the chorus is also an activist group but that shouldn't surprise me. It is very Seattle.

HOORAY!

Feb. 8th, 2010 10:00 am
Daniel Dae Kim is to star in the remake of Hawaii Five-O. That makes me happy.

David Goyer has left Flash Forward. The rumor is that he and Christopher Nolan's borther has sat down to start working on a Batman 3 script. We've been told to expect some sort of Batman announcement before the end of March, so that would work well with that news.

It looks like they're going to relaunch Mr. & Mrs. Smith but this time the marriage will be the cover. Really, though, why would you remake that so soon? Silly.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief is coming out on Friday! I'm so excited!

There continues to be Ghostbusters 3 news. I can't really repeat it here since Bill Murray is all about spoilers. I don't know if it is central to the whole movie or not.

Also, on the comic book front, it looks like Spider-Girl is coming back and that also makes me happy. Hooray!

How excited am I for ECCC? I had a dream about it last night, that's how excited.

Update!

Feb. 7th, 2010 01:33 pm
So, it looks like Disney is so excited about what they're seeing for Tron: Legacy, they're getting ready to put on a TV show after the movie comes out. No word on whetehr it would be animated or live action, though. There will also be a new trailer in early March.

The word on Captain America is that they're looking for an unknown and are hoping to have an announcement on casting March 1. Also, the villain is going to be Red Skull. I like the idea they have about the costume. It could actually work like that, which is neat.

The guy who played Krychek on the X-Files will be joining V.

Jacob from Twilight (I don't remember his actual name) will be playing Stretch Armstrong. That seems like a great career move. Really.

Dear John, starring Channing Tatum and Amanda Seyfried, knocked Avatar out of the top box office spot. I had no plans on seeing it but I feel like I almost should see it now because, well, it knocked Avatar out of the top spot.

Fox is working on a Daredevil reboot, which should really come as no surprise to anyone who saw the first one. It wasn't horrible but in comparison to Iron Man and even Incredible Hulk, it is a pale imitation.

Sony has joined Lionsgate in the bidding on the rights to the "Terminator" franchise. Lionsgate put in a bid of $15 Million and 5% of gross reciepts. I didn't see anything on what the Sony bid was.

Woah!

Young Justice Cartoon.

*cackles* Okay, so the line up is a little bit of a mix between Teen Titans and Young Justice but I'm seriously signed up for this. HOORAY! (Thanks for grabbing my attention to this [profile] elsewhere7.

Also, Best Picture nominations:
Avatar
The Hurt Locker
District 9
Up
Inglourious Basterds
The Blind Side
Up in The Air
A Serious Man
An Education
Precious: Based on the Novel `Push’ By Sapphire

Might I mention that The Hurt Locker also got a nod for Best Director making James Cameron's ex-wife Kathryn Bigelow the fourth woman to receive that nomination. I, unfortunately, see her walking away with that (making her the first woman to win) while Avatar gets Best Picture. *makes a face*

In other news The Teen Wolf remake is moving forward and the next Bourne movie might well be a prequel.

Here is the video which goes with it. http://www.aintitcool.com/node/43768 Not a lot of new footage but there are bits and pieces here and there.

There is a Criminal Minds spin-off in the works and it will star Forrest Whitaker.

A mountain in central China has been renamed Avatar Hallelujah Mountain as officials claim it inspired scenery in the sci-fi blockbuster. This is just stupid. The movie is not that good, people.

The 4th Pirates movie is getting ready to start filming. Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley are both totally not in this one, so it looks like we'll get a bunch of new characters.

The cover for the 2010 Monsters and Dames book is out: http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page=article&id=24575

Warner Brothers is relaunching the Mortal Kombat franchise. Wheeee?

Gremlins 3 is still rumored to be on the way and now the rumors say 3D. Of course they do. What isn't 3D these days? Ehn.
