Back at work. Happy to be here, actually, even if my brain is a little mushy.

Now that all of the travel business is over, time to crack back down on myself for foods and what I'm eating and all of that fun. I need to start eating breakfast. I kind of hate it and my body rebels at the idea of food before 10am but it needs to happen. I need to go back toward more fresh veggies and less pasta/bread/rice. None of this sugar snacking, either, damn it. I've really slid there.

ECCC announced William FREAKING Shatner as a media guest on Saturday. I am so amazingly excited and at the same time, I feel a faint amount of dread. I have faith, though. Things will be okay. There will be better planning this year. I will institute changes myself, if nothing else.

What else, what else?

Ah, yes. I am lacking in faith that my laptop will actually die a true death before my warranty is up. I would like to get a new one so as I can play Civ 5 when it comes out without my laptop choking to death. (Or if anyone has an ideas of how to stop my current one from being so freaking stupid, I'd be up for those too. And yes, if you're up to it, I can describe 'freaking stupid' in more detail.)

And now, I will go find lunch. And attempt not to need a nap. Stupid time zones.
Yesterday was rough in my little corner of the world. ECCC is a fantastic show and a lot of people were having a great time. I like seeing the smilng faces and the squees. So, I still encourage everyone who can to go. It is easily worth the money and though I didn't get a chance to do any shopping yesterday, I saw some brilliant deals out on the floor. I had a few moments that were great yesterday (including one that completely reminded me EXACTLY why I do this and will continue to do this) and now that I have a bit more distance, well, I'm ready to go for today.

For those who stopped by to say hello, thank you very much. I certainly appreciated it and I am sorry I didn't get to do more than say a few words. Special thanks to Mike and David for just being awesome.
Today is the last day of this job. Next week is vacation. Week after that is new job. New job says they want to send me back to India 'soon'. I'm sure that will be interesting. Maybe this time I can fly around the world to do it?

Tomorrow is ECCC! *jumps around* I'm so excited. YEAH!

Here is an interesting write up on ebook formats. Those of you in the market for an ereader .... good info here.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Hugo Weaving is in negotiations to play the Red Skull in "The First Avenger: Captain America." (Do we really need all of that title?) Can I tell you how awesome that would be? Wait, if you're reading this, I probably don't have to tell you. If you want illumination, I'd be happy to expound.

Word is that Sam Worthington has signed to star in the comic book adaptation Dan Dare: Pilot of the Future!

Word is they're going to re-release Avatar... this time WITH ADDED FOOTAGE OMG! GIVE US MORE MONEY MORE MORE MORE MORE MORE. The added footage will bring the movie's runtime up to about a million hours. Really, he says he has about 40 minutes worth ... Yeah. One one hand, hooray, more people in movie theaters! On the other hand, Avatar.

The rumor is that the teaser trailer for Thor will first be seen at Comic Con. Could Brannagh be at SDCC? That would be something.

The new Nikita thing... Well. There is a lot of stuff swirling around about it. I was excited when I thought that Maggie Q would be the lead but now it seems they're going more Bionic Woman on this that that Maggie Q will be the older operative...
One week!

Eeeeeeee!

I'm so excited and a little bit gobsmacked. I'm going to be sitting across from Leonard Nimoy for two days and we're going to be doing pictures with Stan Lee as well, which is a hell of a thing for a number of reasons. It'll be complete insanity on Saturday, I have a feeling - more so than last year. And, of course, I've volunteered to be more involved in the craziness next year, so we'll see how that goes.

On that note, I'm going to be bringing snacks and drinks because I don't know if I'll be able to get away from the table to go hunting lunch. The go bag I'm preparing looks like this so far:
water
bananas
granola
something caffinated
highlighters
spare envelopes
pens
notebook

Any other suggestions?

HOORAY!

Daniel Dae Kim is to star in the remake of Hawaii Five-O. That makes me happy.

David Goyer has left Flash Forward. The rumor is that he and Christopher Nolan's borther has sat down to start working on a Batman 3 script. We've been told to expect some sort of Batman announcement before the end of March, so that would work well with that news.

It looks like they're going to relaunch Mr. & Mrs. Smith but this time the marriage will be the cover. Really, though, why would you remake that so soon? Silly.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief is coming out on Friday! I'm so excited!

There continues to be Ghostbusters 3 news. I can't really repeat it here since Bill Murray is all about spoilers. I don't know if it is central to the whole movie or not.

Also, on the comic book front, it looks like Spider-Girl is coming back and that also makes me happy. Hooray!

How excited am I for ECCC? I had a dream about it last night, that's how excited.

Here is the video which goes with it. http://www.aintitcool.com/node/43768 Not a lot of new footage but there are bits and pieces here and there.

There is a Criminal Minds spin-off in the works and it will star Forrest Whitaker.

A mountain in central China has been renamed Avatar Hallelujah Mountain as officials claim it inspired scenery in the sci-fi blockbuster. This is just stupid. The movie is not that good, people.

The 4th Pirates movie is getting ready to start filming. Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley are both totally not in this one, so it looks like we'll get a bunch of new characters.

The cover for the 2010 Monsters and Dames book is out: http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page=article&id=24575

Warner Brothers is relaunching the Mortal Kombat franchise. Wheeee?

Gremlins 3 is still rumored to be on the way and now the rumors say 3D. Of course they do. What isn't 3D these days? Ehn.

WOW!

My weekend!

Apr. 5th, 2009 08:38 pm
Let me see. There was so much awesome it is hard to remember it all. Let me see if I can try to get it all down in my journal. I'm sure I'm going to forget something but, such is a weekend FILLED WITH COOL THINGS. So many cool things.

- David and Mike came on Saturday and that was awesome. They picked up a lot of neat things for David and it makes me happy to sort of pass on the comic love.
- I got a sketch of Flamebird from Art Balthazar - one of the Tiny Titans guys. They both sketch in Sharpie and crayons and it was only $1! (Awww Yeah Titans!)
- We made more money by noon on Saturday at the photo booth than we did last year. Holly and I rocked it, later joined by Kris and a girl I feel awful because I cannot remember her name but she is FANTASTIC.
- I talked about Bette Kane with Greg Rucka and a gentleman whose name I cannot remember (Gah! Names! My nemesis!) for a long time. It was fantastic. I'm looking forward, a lot, to reading Detective when it starts coming out. All of you need to pick up the first three or four issues. I'm totally serious.
- I got a sketch of Flamebird from Adam Hughes. It is GORGEOUS, OMG. I need a scanner for the awesome.
- Gotham Central 1-4 are now in my posession and signed at that. Hooray!
- I gave Mike's 2-Day badge to the barista for Sunday since Mike wasn't going to be there. She wanted to take her sister since her sister "had just come to the city from the woods and doesn't even know comic stores exist". She gave me coffee for free.
- I had a long time talking to Allison Sohn about all sorts of things and will absolutely be bringing her a cup of coffee in San Diego.
- Chatted with Gail Simone and got her book of collumns about comics and a few issues she'd written that I hadn't picked up.
- I got a picture of me and Holly with Michael Hogan, Aaron Douglas and Timoh Penikett. It is even signed, which I didn't ask for but they did anyway.
- There were a /lot/ of awesome photos taken and Froggy (the photographer) asked for us to come back next year, which I will gladly do. There are a few hours of chaos but the rest is all fantastic.
- Backed Kris up when she went Dan Didio and had a good Wonder Woman and Green Lantern conversation with him. (Heeee. Katma!)
- Got the Tiny Titans GN signed for David with a special dedication for him.

And... I'm probably missing things. It was a fantasic show, absolutely fantastic and I loved being a part of it and am already looking forward to next year. It was a show full of people being nice to each other and generally awesome.

Hooray!
I Love You, Phillip Morris, a movie I've been looking forward to, appears to be headed direct-to-video, due to being unable to find a buyer for it. It got a generally positive reception at recent film festivals but seems to be shaking people views of Jim Carrey as an actor. There are realistic portrayals of male gay sex in the movie which seems to be causing some surprise because they're used to seeing him be wild and crazy guy and seeing him being serious actor is causing cognative dissonance. Really, though, another case of violence and bloodspatter all okay in your movies and sex, especially gay sex, not okay in your movies. Meh.

The creator-friendly nonprofit HERO has announced a new promotion for ECCC. For $1, you can buy one of four Hero badges. You wear the badge at the Con and you're elligible for a prize package! DUNdunnuhdunNUH!

Jamie Hernandez and Stan Sakai will be at the Fantagraphics Store after ECCC, 6-8 April 4th for sort of a post con signing party thing.

Variety reports that MGM and the Farrelly Brothers are getting close to casting The Three Stooges movie. Offers are out to Sean Penn to play Larry, Jim Carrey to play Curly and Benicio Del Toro to play Moe.

Marvel is now planning to launch their MMO in 2012. This has been attempting to get off the ground for awhile now....

Vanessa Redgrave is joining that Ridley Scott Robin Hood movie that keeps getting changed up all the time. She will play Queen Eleanor of Aquitaine, which is an excellent role for her.

Brian Austin Green has been cast in a new pilot, Body Politic. That doesn't mean he's leaving The Sarah Connor Chronicles but it is a bubble show for renewal at this point. I guess it pays to have a back up plan?

And now, the Star Wars Cantina theme on a harp!
Are you in Seattle?

You should be coming to Emerald City Comic Con.

Tahmoh Penikett, Aaron Douglas AND Michael Hogan are all going to be there.

It is good to volunteer at the photo booth.
http://whatever.scalzi.com/2009/02/26/10-things-to-remember-about-authors/

I have to say, I am blessed to have a handful of friends who seem to have made it in this whole book publishing industry and another few people I know well enough to chat but probably not well enough to really call friends who have more than made it. I typically don't talk about work with the first group (unless there is something really cool going on to talk about) and am still working on being cool and chill and finding things that aren't work to talk to the second group about, because even if you love your job would that be all you'd want to talk to someone about? Really? Friendships are not made of this.

Samuel L. Jackson has been signed to a NINE picture deal with Marvel. So, lemme see... That would be Iron Man 2, Thor, Captain America, The Avengers... Ummmmm... Ant-Man...? Namor? Probably some sequels in there somewhere. Maybe a SHIELD movie? Good to see something moving forward, though.

Fox has ordered two additional seasons of "The Simpsons". It is getting to be a point when I can't remember a world before the Simpsons. 22 years at the end of that order. A long, long time.

Both the Hollywood Reporter and Variety are reporting Warner Bros. has hired Justin Marks to write a Suicide Squad screenplay. Huh. That could be very interesting. Sort of an A-Team meet James Bond sort of action vibe. I like it for a franchise.

Variety says that Jerry Seinfeld is returning to NBC as creator and exec producer of a reality series called "The Marriage Ref", a show that will poke fun marriage. “This is not a therapy show, it’s a comedy show,” said Seinfeld. “After nine years of marriage, I have discovered that the comedic potential of this subject is quite rich.”

There are... a LOT of remakes coming. I'm... I don't want to type this... but...The Arthur remake I've mentioned before looks like it has a writer. Total Recall (sighs) and The NeverEnding Story (really big sigh) are both green lit for remakes. C'mon people. If they're looking for be more faithful to the orignal stories, I might be up for that but .... No. I'm tired of these remakes.

There is more stuff out there but it gets pretty stupid pretty fast today (Strech Armstrong: The Movie?). So, I'll just be happy with the ECCC guest list. Aaron Douglas, Tamoh Penikett, Ray Park, Wil Wheaton, Bruce Timm.... Man. Working the photo area is gonna be interesting and fun. And BSG-tastic.
