Barack Obama is cooler than you.

"A belief that we are connected as one people. If there’s a child on the south side of Chicago who can’t read, that matters to me, even if it’s not my child. If there’s a senior citizen somewhere who can’t pay for her prescription and has to choose between medicine and the rent, that makes my life poorer, even if it’s not my grandmother. If there’s an Arab American family being rounded up without benefit of an attorney or due process, that threatens my civil liberties. It’s that fundamental belief—I am my brother’s keeper, I am my sisters’ keeper—that makes this country work. It’s what allows us to pursue our individual dreams, yet still come together as a single American family. “E pluribus unum.” Out of many, one."

There are people who make me believe that the system can work. And he's one of them. Interestingly enough, most of these people are of one minority or another. I need to read more about Kayln Free.

Dude... I so want him to run with Hillary in '08.

I want to see how he handles things between now and then but... as it stands now, I'd vote for that.

And what if John Kerry wins in Nov? Hilary, even with her Far Beyond Driven ambition could not run against a sitting president from her own party. That would put '08 out. Then, if Kerry is a 2 Termer, she would be running against Edwards in 2012 who will only be 58 or 59 years old then and Hilary would be in her mid to late 60s, which is the usual top range for a President. Now, assuming age is not an issue, she and Bill would have been out of the direct spotlight for 12 years, can the Clinton mystique hang on that long when they are not running the party?

Also, maybe it was just me but I found her speech the other night immenently forgetable and Barak's speech to be a launching pad for bigger things.

I don't know if I would vote for her as President but I'd vote for Barak with her as a VP. I don't know. We'll see what the future brings. Bill's speech was amazing. Hillary... not so much.

I do not think that she would accept the VP spot. She has too much ambition to sit quietly and be the supporter, see her tenure as First Lady and the perceived encroachment she made in overshadowing the Senior Senator from NY. Usually the Junior Senator is supposed to stay in the background a little bit more, same as a VP. I don't think she could do it.

What? A junior senator lacks the stature of the senior senator, but they are independently elected and expected to act like it. The junior senators from Massachusetts and North Carolina sur aren't backgrounding....

For one, Ted Kennedy missed his chance to be President in '68 when the nomination was offered to him. Second, Kennedy is an overpowering presense with so much power in the Senate that it would be foolish for him to try to run again.

Also, polls in NC say that Edwards may not even get re-elected to his Senate seat. He had to make the move up, he was not secure in the Senate.

This great state of mine is decidedly conservative and is moreso with the influx of money and people who benefit from the Republican tax cuts to the megabucks. How Edwards got elected in the first place I don't know - I helped him get there, though! - but I would be surprised if he could get reelected. I mean, hell, we elected Libby Dole with experience in running the Red Cross and...what, the Junior League? :P White conservatives run this state, I'm sorry to say.

At the time, John Edwards appeared to be a middle of the road candidate who was helped a great deal by other lawyers. However, as his ambition started to show and as the presidential campaign season got closer, Edwards moved further and further to the liberal end of the scale.

Just to let you know in the spirit of full disclosure, I am an independent in the middle, I have some conservative leaning and some liberal leanings. In the last few elections, I have voted for equal numbers of Dems, GOPs, men, women and everything else.

That's pretty much me too. As I've told people for better or worse, I voted for Reagan. Twice. :P I describe myself as a fence-sitter with my feet dangling over the liberal side of the fence until you talk about, oh, prison reform (I have a very conservative view of the penal system) outside of capital punishment and SOME fiscal policies. But I like Edwards fine and I like Obama fine.

Oh, and I like John McCain fine too!

I suppose I fall into the category of socially liberal, fiscally conservative. I also must agree about the prison thing. I also voted for McCain in the primary, didn't do much good but I did it.

Socially liberal, fiscally conservative.

Consider yourself added to my friends list. :)

Gracias. My opinion is if two people of legal age want to marry, let'em (I think you can catch my drift). Granted, I will marry a woman but everyone's different.

Fiscally, nobody should be spending money they don't have.

Don't spend money you don't have?! Er... *eyes her credit cards* NOW YOU TELL ME!

At least with a credit card, you will pay it back eventually. Besides, issuing credit cards is a legit business.

And pay it back and pay it back and pay it back...

I expect you were speaking of deficit spending?

That is closer to my thought, yes. I would never take shots at someone's inalienable right to have plastic money.

Sign me up for that McCain liking. I really do like the man. I haven't seen enough of Edwards to know but what I have seen, I like.

A black president and a female vice president... Please, God, make it so that we live in a country that can accept non-white males running this place. Wouldn't that be grand.

Wouldn't it be something?

I stiil acutely remember when I was a counselor at a Girl Scout camp. We had people from other coutries come over and be counselors as well. We got to talking about politics and one of them (and I cant'remember where she was from anymore) askwed "We only started vote.. less than fifty years ago and we've voted in two women. What's wrong with you guys?" It was kind of funny and kind of sad.

Yes, it would be grand. It would just take the right persons to come forward. Hilary cannot do it because she is too polarizing. Most people either think she is wonderful or she is evil incarnate. Not really anyone in the middle who are "undecided" about Hilary. A woman and a minority will be president in our lifetimes, perhaps Barak will be, I liked his speech.
