Quotes...

I think I need to write the quotes on the side of my LJ down into my quote book and to put some new ones up there. There just hasn't been anything that's really, really struck me for a new quote recently. I go through dry spells with that sort of thing. I almost feel as if it is nap time for me. It should be later in the day than this. It really should.

So. They're bringing Hal Jordan back as a Green Lantern. Any thoughts?

I feel I should be a little more insightful and personally revealing here but I feel too detatched to really manage it. I have reasons to be happy but I'm just not connecting to them atm.

I think my computer's fan it going crazy. It almost sounds like my computer is slowly winding up to explode or have the fan break off and go flying. At least that would get me a new one. Bleh.

I forgot about the fact that while working out in the morning wakes me up, it also makes me want to crash for a nap in the afternoon.

There are things I need to write, character things, stories in the back of my head... I just haven't found the beginings of the threads of any of those yet.

I agree with pretty much everything you said here.

Why not just keep John Stewart as GL? At least that way the JLA cartoon and the JLA comic is in synch.

Bah.

Because John Sterart is the GL in the JLA and the GL in the GL comic is Kyle Rayner and.... there is Alan Scott in the JSA... Jade is with the Outsiders... There are seventy zillion GLs though no Corps...

At the moment Kyle is still the 'one true' GL as it were, or so it seems.

See that's what I mean. Make The One True GL John Stewart, put him in GL the comic, and keep him in JLA the comic too.

DC doesn't have any other African American heroes of note. Black Lightining? Please he's so 2nd stringer.

I think they'd have to do a lot to John Stewart to make him the One True GL. He's really been left to fallow over the years, or so I think.

See, I take direction from the JLA cartoon John Stewart, he's a John Stewart I can get behind. Being ex-military he has that true warrior spirit (unlike that 'roid case wasshisnamewiththebadhaircut).

Heh. I like the cartoon John Stewart. I really like him. Unfortunately I don't think the comic John Stewart has been that guy in awhile. Or had a chance to be that guy in awhile, might be a more accurate statement.

Yeah. He probably means Guy.

The only problem is, Jon is so fucking boring as a Green Lantern. If he had other powers, I'd have no problem, and in fact, I'd probably love the character.

Lemme explain:

The power of the Green Lantern is really two-fold. It draws on the will and creativity of its handler.

Allen Scott is an old-school crime fighter. No affilation with the corps and struggles with the idea that the ring is too powerful for any man to handle of a regular basis. He'd rather just go in with his fists. This gives him a range of villians and struggles to work with.

Guy Gardener is a redneck, in-your-face guy with brain damage. He doesn't think like the other heroes - especially not other Green Lanterns - and his interaction with them is amusing as a result. Also, he has demonstrated the incredible willpower and willingness to go beyone what the other heroes will do.

Hal Jordan is a classic. His major points of interest are his experience (test pilot, astronaut, plus HOW many years in the corp?) but also his willpower. This man makes Batman's drive look like a whim. Because fate did not confort to the design he felt it should, he went and totalled it in order to start again. Nothing stops him. He never gives up. And when he decides on a course of action, you just become very happy he's on your side.

Kyle Rainer is the most creative Green Lantern - hands down. Hal would never think of making green, well-endowed sick nurses to help him back to health. Kyle thinks in pictures and Warner Brothers cartoons. He has this shadow of a hero to walk in and out of and it drives him crazy. It's just fun to watch this average joe fanboy struggle with the realities of being a superhero.

This leaves Jon...He's a Marine. He takes orders...He is not the type to change the entire universe if he set his mind to it. Creative? Him? Does he struggle with the powers? Not in the JLA comics I have. Any struggles with the Hal legacy? Unless you count rebuilding the GL Corps, not really. The biggest advantage he seems to have is being on the damned cartoon, and I wonder about the motives for putting him there more often then I'd like to admit.

The thing is, they never use the creative aspects Jon has. (He's an architect.) They never talk about the fact that without the ring, he can't walk. (At least in the comic this is true.) There is lots there, no one ever uses it.

Regarding John:

I didn't know he was an architect!

As far as willpower, if he was high-ranking in the military you gotta have plenty of willpower and have a tactic minded vision. I believe he has both
