(I know I'm posting a lot this morning. So much good stuff.)

From Ain't It Cool about Farscape: "According to a Wednesday TV Guide Online report, Rockne S. O'Bannon and Brian Henson were supposed to have participated in a Thursday press conference to "announce an exciting new development in the campaign to continue Farscape," but that press conference apparently did not transpire.

Much of the show’s cast and crew are expected to attend a big “Farscape” convention here in Los Angeles this weekend, so we’ll likely be hearing something soon."

Wizard News reports that their sources inside Warner Brothers are claiming the studio is looking into the possibility of making Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire into one movie, four hours long, with an intermission. (I've heard that more than once now. I would love that.)

Fantastic Four promo sheet! I like it.

Luc Besson says he is working on a sequel to "The Professional" which would be about Mathilda, he's also rumoured to be adapting Rene Barjavel's novel "The Ice People".

According to Variety: "A theatrical motion picture based on the life of 17th century scientist Galileo Galilei is being developed by Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Spitfire Pictures."

There is Highlander 5 news but honestly... It's depressing. I'm not repeating it. Nothing having to do with Highlander should talk about 'their world' or the Holy Grail.

On the strength of Namco Hometek's new vid-game release "Spawn: Armageddon", Todd McFarlane has apparently indicated a new "Spawn" theatrical feature will be produced towards the end of 2004.....

"Disney has just dropped mid-six figures to pick up an original concept from writer Sid Quashie, who will now write the script as a live-action epic feature. The story is based on the earliest Greek myths of how the young god Zeus discovered that his destiny was to overthrow his father, the evil Titan Cronus, and become ruler of the world."

MGM has decided to buy the rights to a series of films spoofing Harry Potter. *sigh*

Intermedia Films has hired Adam and Melanie Wilson to adapt Hans Christian Andersen's The Snow Queen, with ice skater Katarina Witt attached to star.

Todd McFarlane raving about another Spawn Feature?

I could die of not-surprise!

Yeah. Todd Blah, blah, blah.

Did you ever see his rant at the end of the Spawn widescreen director's cut VHS tape?

Spawn was created to do something that God couldn't do! He wanted a hero that could BEAT THE DEVIL!

*eyeroll*

Initially, Spawn was a great concept - a hero with a built-in time limit - too bad he's outlived his own concept.

BTW - There are not (and probably will never be) Spawn characters in HeroClix, because:
a) McFarlane demanded MUCH more money than even DC or Marvel for the rights to use his characters
b) McFarlane demanded more control over his characters and their point costs than anyone else.

There is a possiblity of Medieval Spawn Clix, however, as Gaiman has the right to market Medieval Spawn (and give 50% to McFarlane). I'd love to see that, actually -- just to piss Todd McBlowhard off.

Yeah. I know. He also has partial rights to Angela as well.

Recently apparently Todd has been whining about Medieval Spawn and saying all sorts of untrute things again. Bleh.

I saw a poster of Indy HeroClix figures, and I think I rmemeber Angela being one of the figures. The rest were the likes of Hellboy and Judge Dredd. No Grendel or Cerebus, alas.

They pretty much all look like Angela, actually. Or, more accurately, Elektra. [livejournal.com profile] ahiruko always complained that it was an all Ninja-Babe set with a few Judge Dredd figures thrown in for flavor.

Well, most Indie characters are kick ass over developed babes.

Witchblade for example.

There are many, many less guys out there like that, but that's because of the industry. There are still many few girls reading comics than guys.

You misspelled "comic-cook characters." Hope this helps.

Blah, blah, blah.

Not all of them are and it is getting a little better.

And Marvel and DC are leading the pack?

Sorry, I'm just having a hard time keeping a straight face here.

From: [identity profile] lithera.livejournal.com
Actually, no. They aren't. It's just that some of the independants are far worse than Marvel or DC have ever been.

From: [identity profile] warpdragon.livejournal.com
I'll certainly give you that.

Your earlier post sounded to me like you were singling out indie books in general as being that way, with the implication that they were worse than the majors.

Well, the thing is DC and Marvel, for the most part, have toned down the cheesecake junk since the late 80s and early 90s. There are still covers from time to time that make my skin crawl. (Marvel comes to mind most recently with the Emma Frost and Phoenix books.)

However neither DC nor Marvel have ever put out a book that looked like Witchblade or Lady Death typically do. There are independant books that are better but there are far more that are worse.

And thinking about it WildStorm and DarkHorse (DC subsidiaries) are some of the best about it. They are also the ones, however, that publish things like Hellblazer, Preacher and Sandman. Not too much in the way of the Barbie doll women or impossibly muscled men there.

I think Angela is in the IndieClicks.

I know nothing else is from there.

Magdalena is in there, Shi is in there, Vampirella and Lady Death, too, I think.

The Figure Gallery (which lists all the figures in the set) doesn't include Angela.

Gaiman stated in his blog the other day that he hasn't done any licensing for any of his Spawn characters, yet. (He also mentioned that he would license Medieval Spawn very cheaply and give Todd McFarfromreality his half

I saw that.

Okay. I was probably getting her and someone else mixed up then. I hadn't looked too carefully at them since I do not do the minis thing.

Goblet of Fire with an intermission! Kick arse, but why couldn't this be done for LotR? You know that the distributors would have gone for that...

The FF! Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

Now, if I cover my eyes and go "La la la la!" maybe the Pun movie and some of the other things you posted above will go away... :D

The thing is the only reason Golbet of Fire can consider something like that /is/ Lord of the Rings proving that there is an audience for longer movies. Return of the King might have been able to go in unedited but then again, maybe not.

Well, that was my first thought after seeing Fellowship and Two Towers because I had to pee!

All three of those films needed intermission and I am glad that somebody can take advantage of that fact. Goblet of Fire is perfect because it's a "kids" movie. The distrib's will love it because they will get another trip to concessions out of the audience.

From: [identity profile] lithera.livejournal.com
Nah. I think 3 hours is about right. Anything more than that and an intermission is definately called for.

And yeah, sure, they're kids movies but they're kids movies that are getting distinctly darker - like the books. This makes me happy.

And I will once again add...

Harry Potter.

You should do what I did to get over the "have to pee" thing ...

Work Front Desk for over a year. Drink 4+ liters of soda per day. Take only three breaks - 1 at 9 am, 1 at noon, 1 at 3 pm.
