Revolutions...
Nov. 5th, 2003 09:51 pmI liked it.
It was much better than Reloaded.
I don't want to talk about it too much right now for those of you who haven't seen it. I stand by my feeling that a lot of people won't like the ending because of cultural storytelling conventions.
I still must own the soundtrack.
And I actually do have a favorite character now.

Date: 2003-11-05 11:14 pm (UTC)Also, Lithera and I are both just saying that some peopel are going to dislike it because there is a cultural difference, not that people who aren't into anime will hate it and people who are will love it.

Date: 2003-11-06 06:02 am (UTC)I have a feeling most people might think that... I think Reloaded was better... Revolutions is pretty much just a straightforward sci-fi action movie... a very good one... but I didn't find it very challenging or as interesting as Reloaded... the second one kept you guessing, this one is kinda predictable.

Date: 2003-11-06 06:57 am (UTC)For me Reloaded was predictable and boring. (And the CG drove mecrazy in places.) There wasn't anything in Reloaded that I hadn't pieced together from other things. I kept waiting for it to surprise me and it didn't. There should have been more showing and less telling, as well.

Being non-spoiler is hard.

Date: 2003-11-06 11:50 am (UTC)But then, I'm not sure it would help much anyways. What's an "American" ending? I'd probably say it's one where the lead gets the girl, defeats the bad guy, and they all live happily ever after, even (or especially) when it feels forced. But then again, Casablanca, The Godfather, Braveheart, and Sixth Sense were all big American movies, and none had that ending. None were even close.
You were right, Kat.
Date: 2003-11-06 11:22 am (UTC)Actually, I thought the entire movie could not have been done better, and that it was the only reasonable way to end it logically and make me happy.
I'm very very content with it. Almost as happy as watching the first Lord of the Rings.

Date: 2003-11-06 11:27 am (UTC)Anyway, I liked it. I think I need to see it again - see them all again - and think on it some more, but I'm generally satisfied with the movie.

I liked the ending.
And I liked the Special FX.
That said, I think it was missing some bits to tie some pieces together.
And I wish the state of the art of Special FX were good enough to erase the telltails of CG. Sadly, I think the human mind is geared to tell us "that just doesn't look right." Correct motion is just so impossibly difficult.
The ending bits were juicy and I love them so.
I liked the ending.
What I think would have caused US audiences to hate it would be if things turned out like she said they might if he fucks up.
