So, I have a plan. I have a plan for sleep. Yummy, yummy sleep. I get some melatonin and take some about and hour before I want to go to sleep.

But no. Oh, freaking no. I don't get to sleep an hour later. In fact... I don't get to sleep two hours later. No, I am up until... like 2 am. Once I finally do get to sleep, things do not get any better.

No, I had one of the worst dreams I have had in years. It involved the death of my father and the play/movie The Lion in Winter, which I have never seen but know the plot of fairly well. I wake up just enough to know that I am in severe pain due to my left shoulder and that there are tears sliding down my face.

After calming down, I look at the clock and find it to be 5:30. And you know what? I can't get back to sleep. No, I just enter this strange tranced zone where I don't seem to notice the passage of time but I'm not sleeping either. So, I finally get up out of bed and start to get ready.

You know what? Once I've done that... I'm suddenly sleepy. I just can't win.

However I did receive a lovely e-mail from an unexpected source this morning and that helped, as did the lovely story of Stephen Brust. I love these books to pieces. An example below:

So, with the newly restored Empress, our heroes must get to a certain place. There are a few problems, there is an army between them and their goal who want to kill them. There is also an army behind them that is trying to find them to kill them. The situation looks pretty hopeless as they have no horses or method of transportation.

Empress: What is the situation?
Captain of the Guard: Well. It's hopeless.
Companion T: It is hopeless. And that's great. I'm looking forward to the blaze of glory.
Companion A: I must agree. Completely hopeless.
Empress looks to the silent companion questioningly.
Companion P: I disagree. Entirely.
Everyone else: Wha?
Companion P: Of course I do. For the first time in years all four of us are in the same place with the same goal. Think of what we've done in the past. I don't believe that there is anything we cannot accomplish.

It was a great moment.

if you want, you can have some of the excess sleep I've been using lately.

Leigh told me about this Calms Forte stuff. You take it about an hour before bed and it helps you sleep. I've used it some and it works for me without nasty side effects or bizzare dreams. I got mine at Fred Meyers, though you could probably go to any natural foods place.

That's not the first time I've heard of that, actually. I'll see if things get better or not and if not, I'll go looking.

I have some, if you'd like to try it. It didn't work spectacularly on me, but then again not much does :)

Okay. I'll see. If things look horrible this evening, I'll have to or probably kill someone here at work.

have you tried sonata? I've used it myself and it's a pretty nice sleep agent. every pill is good for 4 hours and it does not turn you into a zombie, i.e. hard to wake up, etc. It's supposed to have little or no side effects. I'd check WebMD on it. I hope this helps! Hang in there, Lady!

If you lived closer I'd give you some of mine.
:(

It is pretty easy to find though.

I actually slept pretty well last night, until I heard SOMETHING thrashing in the kitchen about 4. Went downstairs, didn't see anything moving, found some trash on the floor and put it back upstairs.

Half hour later, I heard something fall over. It was the trash can. I took care of it, fortunately no icky messes.

Poltergeist, critter, unbalanced can, or whatever ... that's why I was up about 5. Slept soundly after that, until I heard a bubbling-chirping noise like a large bird trying to sing as it was coughing up blood. Not a happy sound, somewhere outside the house. Never located the source, and I kind of hope I dreamed it.

you know... did we leave the windows open? because I wonder if something got into the house and attacked the garbage can. if it was a cat, they would have got in through the window in the living room. Or a squirrel.

Cat, squirrel. Probably not a raccoon. Critter seems to be the least hypothesis.

Yet another reason I should put some time and effort into cleaning the kitchen tonight.

Cody took the garbage to the curb this morning, bless his heart, so we should have an empty garbage pail to empty party garbage into.

maybe we should close the windows too :)
