Why a turtle?

Well, turtles are cute. I like turtles. I have always had a fondness for them.

For awhile my happy thought was a little turtle (imagine the cute little turtle) who would make mecha-robot noises when he walked. Go on think about it. It's great. Whhhhhirrr-chunk. Whhhhhhrrrr-chunk. Kind of like AT&AT walking noises.

Turtles do not climb things, thus, consequently, they cannot fall from great heights unless they are dropped. I do not want to be worrying about a kitten deciding to take a leap off of my balcony.

Turtles live in tanks. They do not need to go outside or be walked. Marvelous that.

I could be happy watching a turtle walk around in his tank for hours on end. I would move things around and change the terrain. I would feed him bits of hamburger and lettuce.

That is why a turtle.

I would like a kitten, but right now, I'd be araid to let it near windows or anything else even faintly related to a possible fall.

They're cute for three seconds, then they over-inflate themselves and start to bleed and leak strands of tissue from hideous fissures in their skin.

It's true. Puffer fish, especially in captivity, are perfectly capable of--and on occasion not smart enough to refrain from--puffing themselves to death. It's not something you want to see.
