So. Not too long ago, I saw a 'deal' on 50 random DC comics for $10. So, I said what the hell and I ordered 100 comics. Because, what the hell, for $20 + shipping and taxes I can still likely resell them for more than that if I really don't like what I get.

They came today. And there is some good and some bad but mostly, the random chance seemed to be in my favor. The earliest comic I think I have in a quick scan is 1983... I think the latest is like... 1995? Unfortunately, the mid 90s comics seem to all be Superman. I don't think I have any of these comics (though I'm pretty sure I've sold a few of them previously).

Most of them are right before I seriously started collecting comics. And the box smells of comic books paper. The old stuff. The smell is on my hands now and it makes me smile.

The List:
Zero Hour #0-4
Superman: The Man of Steel #22, 26, 27, 34, 43 & 82
Superman #18, 61, 79, 80, 120
Xenobrood #0-6
The Web #2, 3, 5, 7, 8, 11, 12, 14 & Annual #1
Shade: The Changing Man #1, 8, 34, 35, 37
Guy Gardner #1, 5 Warrior #0, 20 (NOOOO! KILOWOG!), 24
Legion 284, 298, 306 & Annual #2, 9, 20, 22, 29, 1, 10, 47, 64, 71 and 2 copies of 85 (Three different starts here...)
Star Trek 1, 5, 22, 65 & Annual #5
The Demon 11, 12, 19, 32 & 41
Birds of Prey #1
Kid Eternity #1-5
Green Lantern #2 (1990), 41, 90 GLC Annual #2, Emerald Dawn #2
Detective Comics #600, 601, 617, 627, 649, 661, 698
Batman vs Predator #3 (I have 1-3 already...)
Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight 5, 9 (Grant Morrison), 28 (Matt Wagner), 65, 66, 67, 68, 71, 83 (Warren Ellis) & 85.

And a few other random bits and pieces.

I take umbrage with the words "unfortunately" and "Superman" in the same sentence! Especially as the mid-90s wasn't nearly as bad as the early-to-mid-00s for Supes! ;)

Ehn. I was not a big fan with the whole "Death of Superman" and what followed. Take into consideration that I've always been a very picky Superman reader and that makes what I've bought very thin indeed.

I'm picky too (so much so that "Trinity" and the horrible Superman books drove me away from comics altogether and caused me to dump EIGHT longboxes and seventeen years or so of collecting DC into the recycling).

That being said, there was some good stuff back then, if I remember correctly. But mayhaps I don't.

Really? Trinity? That I wouldn't have excpected that reaction to that. I just remember walking away from a /lot/ of DC stuff about the same time due to The Death of Superman and Kngithfall.

Did you READ Trinity?

Ugh, I hope not. No one should have to do that. :)

I read the first trade. I assure you, I didn't read the second.

I had to read all 50 issues to review for Superman Homepage.

Worst thing I've ever read.

OH!

Yeah. See, I'm thinking something else entirely. I was thinking the Trinity /before/ that. The thing that only came out in three skinny trades. To be honest, I'd blanked out the weekly year long.

Ahhh. Never read that myself, but honestly there's no way in hell it could be as bad as the crap Busiek handed us.

Yeah. I bought the first two or three issues and dropped it. There was an interesting thing later where they did a character mash-up alternate thing that I saw on Scans but I didn't pick them up. I don't have money to waste on comics I don't like. It is about time for a thining again. Too many I'm okay with sitting around for days at a time without reading.

The Trinity (3 skinny trade version) is quite good. Origin story for the three of them meeting up for the first time.

I own Trinity... Which just really makes me think I should re-read it to remember what was in it.
