The room party... Woooo.
So. I have no DJ. This is a disappointment but in a way makes things a bit more simple. I don't think that I'll be able to find anyone else and it gives me one less thing to flip out about if things go badly for what ever reason, right? Sure.
I have alcohol but the real question is how much should I have? I know I'm going to need to buy more than I have right now (along with mixers and such but that can be closer to the day of...) but... I really have no idea how much it should be. Any guesses?
Ummmmm. If anyone has any folding card talbe like deals that I can borrow, that would be awesome. If not, I can cope. I'm thinking minimalist is probably how things will go but I will need something for a bar. (Though I've seen plenty of parties pour drinks in the bathroom - if only to keep people from making a huge mess in there.)
So.. ideas and stuff welcome.
There will be a birthday bowling post later today, I think. (Remember... 24th!)

Date: 2007-03-06 04:56 pm (UTC)I'm not even sure I'll worry about music. With the smaller room parties no one ever dances anyway. If my desktop is up and running at that point, I'll bring it and do some streaming background tunes or something.

Date: 2007-03-06 05:11 pm (UTC)I suggest many many jello shots. I have had much experience with making them and they are yummy and easy to transport.

Date: 2007-03-07 01:53 am (UTC)Not true, at least in my experience. Some prefer to dance in small room parties because they don't feel exposed like they would on a dance floor. If the music's loud, the drinks are good, and the room is dark and square (i.e., no beds taking up valuable floor space), someone will dance.
NOTE: I have DJ'ed two parties of this nature with resounding success. You might have a playlist already in mind, but if not I can provide one in addition to pouring drinks. I have the plague that will make your booty move.

You have any recommendations to amounts of alcohol? I'm planning on keeping it simple on what alcohol I have around.

Date: 2007-03-07 05:02 am (UTC)Rum and fruit punch is the easy sleazy. Screwdrivers always please but if that's all you serve expect some yakkers. If you make anything with whiskey in it, go easy on the proportions. You can always get creative and get a rep with an original drink creation, but don't do it unless you know it's a crowdpleaser. Don't serve wine, and don't serve beer unless you get a keg.
All this assumes that you want a lively OONTZ OONTZ OONTZ type of party and not people sitting around chatting. If you're wanting a more low-key, smoove type of party (those are always cool too) then you'll want to diversify your liquor and probably have a bartender who's more skilled than I am. :)

Date: 2007-03-06 06:33 pm (UTC)My recommendation is lots of mixers. People at con leave their wits at the door, and will pour themselves into alcohol stupor before you can say, "That wasn't vodka." Have a good selection of the basics, vodka, tequila, (I would seriously recommend no whiskey in the room, it kills the guest of honor dead) and some of the not-so-basics, creme de cacao and buttershots (for flavored fun.)
If you buy stuff by the case, you will get a better deal.
I'm sorry I won't be able to attend the party, but I have a feeling that Luke will be able to, so at least you can enjoy his company.

Date: 2007-03-06 08:01 pm (UTC)Generally just planning on vodka, tequila and rum for my party. Because I don't want to be complicated with the drinks. Probably some Bailey's in there too.
