When I said that I wanted 2006 to be better than 2005, perhaps I did not clarify myself enough.

I know we're only 5 days in but so far, I am not impressed. Let me just go over the past few days:
5 U.S. soldiers among 134 killed in attacks across Iraq
Israel's Sharon clings to life after stroke
Zeta strengthens into tropical storm, could break record
A mine explosion, an ice rink collapse and now a hotel collapse in Mecca
Bird Flu has spread to Turkey

These things are not /better/. One might go so far as to say that they are /worse/ in some cases.

I also have this stupid cold. It is making me grumpy. I slept through the night last night which is an improvement certainly but I feel worse during the day. It's a trade I'll take but not one I'm happy about. I don't want to be sick at all.

So. I want to see some turn around! Vite, vite!

You missed the explosion of puppy births in the wake of Hurricane Katrina that is not only totally out of season, it's adding tremendous strain to rescues and shelters that are already overcrowded with dogs that were rescued during/after the storm.

*sigh* Yah, so far I'm totally not impressed with 2006's news.

There are a lot of strange things happening down there. Like... there are apparently watermelons growing all over the place too.

Poor puppies.

But 2006 *is* better than 2005 so far. I have hanging on my office wall a story from Jan. 6, 2005, in which officials believe the death toll from the tsunami could reach 140,000.

So far, 2006 is just getting people in small groups, which the Iraqi funeral the largest, I think. Whereas 2005 was worse just from carryover from 2004.

Hey with all of the political scandal happening, we might actually get some real change in the lobbying system in DC - and that HAS to be good.

I do not see any real changes in the Lobbying system happening at any point soon. There may be a couple of symbolic convictions or something like that but there will be no real change. The only lesson learned is that you have to be more careful when you are influence-peddling.

This all fallout from 2005. That's just how nasty 2005 was.

2006 will be better, we just have to finish up the aftershocks.

My friends make some nice points here, though. We're still cleaning up, I think.
