It's catastrophic to a level we do not, thank God, often see. Whole villages were swept out to sea; in Sri Lanka, a jail was destroyed and the criminals, many of them exceedingly violent, escaped. I can't wrap my mind around the horror of it.
All I can think is that because it happened in a third-world country, people aren't as freaked out about it as I would have expected. I can't help thinking of those poor people so much, and as soon as I know how to contribute to causes helping the victims I'll do what I can.
