The irony... the irony...

So, now that I'm actually in gear to get myself to a doctor and have gotten over all of the nerves (even though I did drop the phone three times before I could manage to call) all of the doctors I've called aren't accepting new patients until August.

August. *looks at a calendar* Well, that would be something, at least. Even if it is a month and a half from now.

As it is, I am going to call tomorrow at 7 and set up a short walk in appointment at one place I called and get on their list for appointments in August. Maybe at least that way I can get something for the eczema. It would be a start.

Of course for the girly bits there is always Planned Parenthood. They're nice enough and I don't mind giving them my money....

Anyone have any advice on how to find a doctor that won't cause me to have a panic attack? (Either the method or the doctor...)

Call the Women's Health Care Center at UW Medicine's Roosevelt Clinic. That's where I go. They do general medicine as well as female specific stuff. Last I saw, they had a couple doctors who were accepting patients. If she has any room, I highly recommend Karen Carlson.

as you are definitely not alone. As someone who works in the medical profession, we see a lot of people who have fears or problems with coming to see the doctor. If possible, what I'd recommend is to try and see if you can talk to the doctor your seeing staff. As in a nurse or if that doesn't work ask if you can leave a message for the doctor. Let them know your concerns and fears, most of them will work with you and help you get over this. Whether it's by starting off with shorter apptointment times that gradually increase each time you come in to be seen. Or perahps some other method. In the end I congratulate you for going back to the doctor as it really is important to get checked out every year or so.

Might want to try and find a cause for your eczema. I know my eczema was caused by soy products, so you might want to see if you can pinpoint any food that is eaten some time before a flare-up. Might be something else entirely, but it could help in the long-run to try to identify such a trigger. Some hydrocortizone cream should help clear it up otherwise. Not sure if they're available off-the-shelf at any drug store down in the US, though.

As far as I can tell it happens with the changing of the seasons. Certain soaps also seem to make it worse but won't cause it on their own.
