You know, I saw this movie last night for free.

Some part of me cringes at the fact that I loved this movie. I haven't laugh so hard at a movie and a long, long, long time. I almost feel guilty for liking this movie so much. I think what saves it for me is that not there cliches in this movie, they're acknowleding them along the way, they're almost abusing them. The characters know they're cliches and seem more than happy about it.

If you liked Zoolander you'll like this movie. Esentially the people who made Zoolander looked at it and said, 'We can do better than that. Let's go further this time.' There are all the random cameos of Zoolander (though no one gets a pause like David Bowie did). This time there is nothing more than a plot so contrived not all of the /characters/ believe it. There is low humor and some fairly high, though more hidden, humor as well. (Deus Ex Machina written on something that is exactly that.)

Firefly fans - you must go see this for Alan Tudyk as The Dread Pirate Steve. That and the random cameos alone are worth the price of admission. I'm not going to give you any spoilers but the cameo in the airport is my favorite.

If you go, which I do recommend, stay through the credits. All of them. There is a bit at the end which is funny, though funnier in places than others.

Movie was totally stupid-funny. But if you go, stay through the credits for something horribly disturbing...

I haven't seen Zoolander, although a very tiny part of me wants to. I don't generally like sophomoric humor and that's what Zoolander (and Dodgeball, for that matter) mostly look like. I had not the slightest impulse to see American Pie. Bearing this in mind, d'you think I might enjoy Zoolander or Dodgeball? :)

Well, I hated American Pie and I love Zoolander. I think the main difference is that Zoolander (and Dodgeball) were written /knowing/ that they were playing into this sort of humor. There is an awareness about them which shows that they know exactly what sort of jokes they're telling.

I'd rent Zoolander and give it a chance. The movie is worth it for Will Ferrel (who I /hated/ before seeing Zoolander) and the David Bowie and Billy Zane cameos.

I have to admit, the bit in your post about David Bowie made me go ? enough to want to rent it, so maybe I'll give it a try. I really don't like Will Ferrel, but I'll take you on faith and let you know what I think. *grin* Thanks!

The best line of Zoolander is towards the end when someone starts yelling, "What, am I taking crazy pills or something?" I know how that one feels.

Let me know if you liked it or not.

I love Ben Stiller.. but can Dodgeball really live up to the 1-2 punch of Ben and Owen?

Hmm...

Still want to see it regardless... ;)
