This week is going to be completely crazy. So.... I don't know if you will hear from me as much this week or not. Lots of training, lots of temps, lots of... busy.
For the funniest thing I have seen in a long time... It's Troy in 15 minutes. Much like the Very Secret Diaries. Extreme spoilers.
As for Troy itself, I went in knowing it wasn't going ot be the Illiad. Had I been hoping for a straight to screen from the text movie, I would have been very, very dissapointed. Instead what I got was a decent representation of the characters I was looking for, even if they changed a lot of the story around it. I would be willing to watch Sean Bean as Odysseus in a movie of his own. That would be great. There were about ten minutes that I want out of the film entirely since they don't fit in my mind at all. The fights were gorgeous and unlike anything I've seen in a long time. Achilles moved... differently. It was fluid, liquid, elegant and yet entirely brutal.
All in all, I suggest you go see it. It is very pretty, even if they did take all of the male frontal nudity shots out to get the R rating. (Damn them. Damn them all....)

Date: 2004-05-17 09:02 am (UTC)I luuuuuurved it. And everybody I know has said, "I wanna see Sean Bean in Odysseus, now!" (And, as another friend of mine said, "He can breach my walls *any* time.")
Did you notice--I didn't until it was pointed out--that every single one of the gorgeously posed slow action/deliberate freeze fight poses were directly off ancient Greek vases? Even Achilles' signature move. I thought that was SO COOL!

Date: 2004-05-17 09:29 am (UTC)Come to think of it, I did notice it but I hadn't really realized that was what I was seeing. They registered with me as /right/. Thanks for letting me know why.
I was happy with the movie. Very much so. I'm not sure what sort of replay value it has for me, though. I'll have to wait and see if it is one I want to watch again.

Date: 2004-05-17 09:33 am (UTC)I want to see it about eight more times, my own self. I enjoyed it more than anything I can remember seeing in a loooong time. But then, I'm a real sucker for tragic heroes. :)

Date: 2004-05-17 09:38 am (UTC)Other than that, I liked it. I would love to see the fight scene between Achilles and Hector again. Did you know what they paid each other money for everytime they messed up and hit each other? 50 for ever bruise and 100 for everything more serious than that. Pitt ended up owing Bana $750 dollars.
That and during that fight he pulled his Achilles tendon badly. Talk about irony, hey?
So sorry

And anybody else who has the guts to say that that ridiculous pageant was tolerable :)
