So... New Orleans...
Apr. 19th, 2004 04:00 pmSo... Monday. I get up in the morning and head down to the concierge to ask about a few things. First is a local place for breakfast and the other is Six Flags. She says Six Flags is open on weekends - Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Remember this. It is important later. I also get instructions on how to get to Mother's, an excellent place to eat on the corner of Tchupitoulas and Poydras. I recommend it to everyone. Looking at the pictures on the walls was great, too. They have many, many pictures on the walls from celebreties who have eaten there. The back of the front room is filled with old letters from generals and pictures of Marines and the Blue Angels. It was a sort of warm fuzzy feeling for me to see it all.
After a good breakfast, we started out walking. We walked to Lee Circle and took pictures and then walked further into the Garden District. We walked up to Anne Rice's house, only to find out it is for sale. So sad. We also found some amazingly friendly cats in amongst the beautiful houses. There was one all white tiger striped. Looked almost like my perfect cat. We stopped in a bar called Igor's for a cider and then took the trolley back to Canal Street. We made reservations for Brennan's for the next night and went out walking in the French Quarter.
We did a lot of walking. Can you tell? I got a little wacky and grumpy due to my feey hurting and lack of food. We ate and things were better. We walked some more and some more. Later that night we ended up at The Funky Pirate. Let me tell you, Big Al Carson is awesome. This song was really great, though his lyrics are a bit different. We had quite a bit to drink and then called up
Tuesday.... We woke up and went out for bengiets for breakfast. Thus began the day of indulgence and extravagance. We walked around some more and saw the sights and eventually headed back to the hotel, where Cody and I went to spend some time in the hot tub and then in the pool. It's been a very long time since I've been in a swimming pool. I'm amazingly dumb about things at times. I should go swimming more often. I love the water.
We then all got dressed up a little bit for our dinner at Brennan's. They have around 3.5 million dollars of wine in stock there at any time. We had a bottle of Presporter and it was amazing. Another thing that was amazing was our waiter - Ryan. He was like a waiter ninja, always there when a glass needed refilling. We really, really liked Ryan. (For me, of course, it didn't hurt that he pretty much fit the sort of guy I fall for at a glance.) The food was amazing. I had the Bananas Foster and I must agree with Ryan that he probably makes it the best at the restaurant.
After the meal, we couldn't just go out drinking. We all felt like we needed a cigarette, so we wound up a coffee/cigar/gellatto place with these huge rocking chairs. It was just right for the dining experience, which had been very close to divine.
Wednesday started as we got up and... We went to The House of Blues for an early lunch/late breakfast. Then we went to St. Louis #1 afterwards. Holly brought rum and oranges for Marie. I thought about asking her for something but once there I realized I didn't need to ask her for what I was going to ask for. (That's convoluted...) That place is full of amazing things and people and tributes. The tour guides that went by were ... amusing. It's funny to listen to them all put their spin on things.
Then we went back to the hotel to wait for Ariel to join us. Ariel is a lot of fun, I must say. Putting her with Holly is a dangerous experiement. Where as with Holly it is, "OOooooOoooHHHH! Look! Shiney!", adding Ariel makes it, "oOOOooo! Look! Shiney! Oh! Look! Not shiney!" It's fun and distinctly amusing to watch. We went somewhere for Ariel to catch some food and then... Hrm.... I can't remember right now. I'm sure I'll remember later. For now, I have things I have to get to other than this.
I'll finish up later.
