President's Trophy! Wooooo! *grooves* And it was won with the fourth goalie in his third NHL game ever.

Of course it means nothing, except home ice in just a few days.

Now... Now onto the playoffs!

It means more than nothing. This country doesn't do enough to honor regular-season champions. Playoffs are about being hot at one point, and having all you guys healthy and on form at the end.

The President's Trophy/Supporter's Shield/whatever means you played, week in, week out, the best of all the other teams, over a longer period. If there were any justice, it would mean *more* than the playoffs, because it's harder and it's truer.

See, if it actually mattered to anything in about a week or so, I'd agree with that. I'm proud that they earned it. I'm glad they did, since home ice is important.

It just doesn't ever seem to translate over into playoff victories and the Stanley Cup, which is what everyone seems to want.

In the NHL playoffs, a hot goalie can cover up many problems and win the thing. Look at last year, J.S. Giguere of the Ducks was redhot. Were the Ducks that good? No, but he was.

Oh certainly. I'll admit that a hot streak can win you a Cup. That's why it always seems to feel that it doesn't matter how good you are in the regular season, except for the lovliness of home ice.

True enough. If you just get to the playoffs, it becomes a crap-shoot. Skill and preparation are important but sometimes luck will trump'em all. Also, since the advent of free-agency, keeping a stable core of players together for a while is all but impossible. Well, that, and the fact that every team will trade every player, it seems, by the deadline.

Red Wings didn't cool off down the stretch. Grumble. The Sharks were flying right behind them too. :) Congratulations; that was a great run.

Here's too the playoffs; it's going to be a good one this year.

I know. Who would have thought that the Sharks would have kicked it up like that?

It's going to be an interesting run this year.
