The one thing that the Tim Burton Batman movies got right was the soundtrack. It will be hard to live up to that.

Danny Elfman has a respectable roll in the movies he plays. In general, there are some movie moments that would have been unremarkable but for the score behind them. And if it's done really well, sometimes you don't notice the music untill the second time you see it.

Love Danny Elfman.

Recently I haven't been as impressed with his scores but he's really, really had some great moments.

Was he dissapointing in Big Fish? The last thing I was really into with him was Sleepy Hollow, and I had some enjoyment there.

Big Fish wasn't dissapointing so much as very background. There were good moments but as a whole I felt it was a weak effort.

Chicago was much, much better. (He did the scored bits.)

Thanks to imdb.com - here's his list for the last few years:

Big Fish (2003)
Hulk (2003)
Chicago (2002) (original score music)
Red Dragon (2002)
Spider-Man (2002) (original music)
Planet of the Apes (2001)
Mazer World (2001)
Heartbreakers (2001) (main theme)
Spy Kids (2001)
Family Man, The (2000)
Proof of Life (2000)
Sleepy Hollow (1999)

He gets points for Chagago (I hadn't realized he was involved!) and Sleepy Hollow. The others I either haven't seen or was unimpressed by the score (Hulk might have been actually bad).

The Red Dragon score was actually really good. The rest of the movie wasn't worth the time but the score was enjoyable.

I wouldn't have thought that Red Dragon would translate well into a movie. And if it did, it would be too disturbing to actually watch.

But boy, was I tempted. I Have a crush on Raife Feines. (spelling?)

Much of those I havn't seen. I have a feeling like some of them just wouldn't have that special *sparkle* that Sleepy Hollow did.

Note to self: SEE BIG FISH, SILLY!

I didn't know he'd done Chicago, either. Good on him. Mostly, though, his recent movies have made me go, "Oh god, Elfman again," which is really not what you should think when you hear a movie score. You shouldn't *notice* it, I think. :)

I think, for the most part, you should notice it but there should be something that catches in your mind. There should be something that helps accent the emotions on the screen.
