I have a headache. This happens to me often at work now.

It is just after 1:30.

4:30 cannot come fast enough.

I want to go get my comics and go home. I want to sleep for hours and watch the X-men Evolution finale in the morning.

I want to figure out how I can be a better manager. While being a manager is like being a teacher there are enough differences that I'm not sure how to deal with some things. I am so glad that I get an hour back on Sunday and then next Friday off.

It is nice to know that when I throw an e-mail out into the ether something comes back from time to time.

ouch

sorry about the headache. I will concur with you that work has been absoultely atrocious. I'm glad to have a job, but Jesusfuck! It's tough to be a manager. IMO what's the most important is having the ability to listen to people, to get past the chaff to the wheat/meat of their argument or concern. What makes it "interesting" of course is that different people will respond differently based on their character type: some need hand holding, some need basic guidance or just a clear idea of what YOU want/need, some need some sunlight and the occasional you rock and they can go for miles. ;)
I hope your days goes by fast.

don't forgot to try to talk to other managers who've been doing this longer; betcha they went through the same problems. Maybe they can recommend some good books?

Yeah. I was planning on figuring out who I want to ask first. There are a few people I want to ask if I can, though it will take some courage to ask a few of them.

Oh I know a good book...

Believe it or not there actually is a book entitled "How to Command an Air Force Squadron" availible from AMAZON.COM my old commander at Robins had a copy in his office.

I never got around to tell him the story of Gen Washington. Gen Washington kept a cupple of "How To" manueals on warfighting in his saddle bags. Everyonce in a while during a battle he would ddig them our and start skimming pages. The confiedence of his staff went to zero when this happened. Gen Washingotn fought eleven battles but only won three. Granted, they were the three that counted.
