lithera: (Love you)

I love it. I've read it all the way through (almost) twice. It has been awhile since my mind has been so a whirl with thoughts. They're the sort of thoughts that don't ever allow me to pin anything down and realize what they're about, either. I have to wait until the settle back onto the ground and then jump on them while they're not looking. Sometimes they jump me when I'm not looking.

Death In Venice is, well, Death in Venice. That alone would have been enough for me to like the story. It took me awhile to place it but I had the feeling that I had read this story before somewhere. There are elements of The Mask of Red Death in it, one of my favorite stories, though I am not sure why the rest of it seems so familiar to me. The drawings of Venice are lovely.

What I've Tasted of Desire is a lovely tale. I appreciated how the writing and the art worked together, so while the character is telling her story to the people on the page with her, she is also looking out to you the reader, with a glint in her eye, so you know she's really telling it to you, instead. The art is fantastic. I don't think I can say enough about Milo Manara's art. (Thank you so much, Lu.) The story is well crafted and sends links towards other aspects of the Endless if you think about it some.

Dream: The Heart of a Star is a nice story. It points fingers into interesting corners of the DC universe. It was also very nice to see Delight. She isn't so much different than Delirium some of the time. The look into the past, to see the beginings of the conflict between Dream and Desire was very interesting. It draws into sharper contrast the differences between dreams and desires. In some ways these two are closer than they'd ever want to be.

Fifteen Portraits of Despair was amazing. Each and every one of them is a look into someone's very own personal hell. There were some of them I had to put the book down after reading, since they struck so very close. I have always been able to appreciate the bittersweet taste of these sorts of little vingettes. There is one in particular that makes me wonder about the nature of this second Despair.

Going Inside convinces me that there is something I am missing. I look at this Delerium story and know I need to be in a different frame of mind to understand entirely what is going on here. Some day, when I'm not so well attached to myself, I will sit down and read this again and maybe find the pieces that are missing. I want to know what happened to cause this story. I don't know if the clues are in the story or not.

On the Penninsula is an excellent Destruction story. Yet again I'm reminded of Mike, in ways. There is not much I can say about this story in a review form. It is a much better story to sit down and discuss the deatils of over coffee.

Endless Nights is a Destiny story. I read it and was not touched by it. It isn't a story for me and I can appreciate that. As I read it, I kept thinking about how much Luke would appreciate it. Especially with his near fetish for large books. There are some people who are Destiny people and some people who aren't.

It is indeed a Death story. It is very interesting. I think you wouls like it. It is a story about someone who has found a way to hide from death by living the same day over and over again.

There is quite a bit of decadence and hypocrisy. I'm not sure which one you would like most but this would be up there.
