The WB has ordered a pilot for a new series based on DC Comics' “fastest man alive," according to Variety. It sounds interesting, but wacky. According to Variety piece, the Flash will each week be sent on a time-travel mission to the past or the future. (Yes, the Flash is fast enought to do that but it's not like he does it all the time.)

The last MTV Spider-Man is tonight. No word on a continuation of the series or not.

Lost in Translation is a new movie with Bill Murray. It looks really, really good. I want to go see it. a quote from a review on Comingsoon.net: "Bill Murray plays rundown movie star Bob Harris, in Tokyo to do commercials for a Japanese whiskey company. His inevitable jetlag and problems sleeping are compounded by an impending mid-life crisis and family troubles back home, forcing him to spend his free time drinking at the bar. There, he meets Charlotte (Johannson), a young woman tagging along with her photographer husband (Ribissi). The two strangers strike up a fast friendship as they travel through the streets of Tokyo, experiencing the strange culture of the city together."

Bits and pieces of things elsewhere - Family Guy movie is given a go.

Harry Potter & The Goblet of Fire rumor: A four hour single movie with an intermission looks like it might be on the cards for the fourth 'Potter' movie according to Wizard News.

Wasn't there just a Flash series a few years ago, on... I want to say CBS.

Ebert raves over Lost in Translation. It sounds a little like a middle-aged version of Before Sunrise, actually. I'd like to see it.

There was one in the early 90s. I actually liked it but not too many other people did. Apparently this one will not have The Flash in the scarlet suit at all. I don't know. I'll have to see where things go.

I'd love to see it. I've heard that this is Bill Murray at the best he's ever been - a landmark piece of acting for him. Opens this week in NYC and LA and elsewhere over the course of September.

Slate also raved over that.

Always travels through time, doesn't wear a costume, weird take on the flash there.

All I remember about that Flash was that the actor went on to play Dawson's dad, and David Letterman would constantly rip on it.

"Have you heard about this show, The Flash, Paul? It's about this guy, see? And he can RUN REALLY FAST! He can run two hundred miles an hour, what do you think of that?"
"I don't know, I think it might come in handy to be able to run two thousand miles an hour."
"Not two thousand! Two HUNDRED! Two HUNDRED miles an hour. Don't make it RIDICULOUS, Paul. Don't make a MOCKERY of it."

Bill's already being talked up as an early Oscar contender. Which would be amazing. But the same thing happened with Rushmore, and he got utterly snubbed, probably the worst Oscar oversight in... well, not very long, because they always make huge oversights. But still, I'm not getting my hopes up yet.

So I've got Lost in Translation to look forward to in the near future, plus American Splendor is FINALLY opening in Ventura today! WOOHOO!!

The only reason the Oscars aren't the most useless and stupid awards in America is that we still have the Grammys.

And maybe the Emmys.

Oh come on. We have the MTV music awards. The Northwest League (the one that the Aquasox play in) give out an MVP award. There's a Best of El Paso award. Jambands has an annual Jammys award ceremony. It gets a LOT more useless.

None of those other awards have anywhere near the level of pretense the Oscars, Grammys and Emmys have. The MTV movie and music awards are crap, but at least they're not pretending to be The Gold Standard.

You said most useless and stupid awards. You made no condition about said awards having to pretend to be some gold standard.

Having them pretend to be so important makes them more stupid.

Flash !!! AAAAhhhhhh!!!!

I remember the early 90's Flash series with him wearing the Russian (Cosmonaut)? suit. That show was pretty good. I liked it when others laughed, those bastards!!!

I remember that show. He was cute, and the suit was fuzzy.

He is right...

I once got "Communications and Information Priofessional Airman of the Quarter (Jul-Sep) for the 692 Information Operations Group" award. Which is a very useless award.
