There is nothing like unpacking a box and finding one of your favorite books in it.

I've read this book... I don't know. Six, seven, ten times? I love it. It is a romance novel and I am unashamed to say that it is one of my favorite books ever. It is Remembrance by Jude Deveraux.

I found it last night and am re-reading it as bus material. I remembered why I loved this book instantly.

1) The main character writes romance novels and will go on and one about how there is no magic fairy that shows up and hits you on the head with a wand, "Go forth and write".

2) I am a sucker for a Grand Romance that takes work and effort. I think every relationship needs and deserves some effort - the more important the relationship, the more willing to work on things you should be. (I'm a sucker for the Grand Romances that go horribly wrong and, unlike the whole Arthur debacle, then get worked out.)

3) Past lives, swords, a monkey and castles are all important parts of the story.

I have found that Jude Deveraux has written more than one romance novel that I love. There is this one, A Knight in Shining Armor, The Duchess and Sweet Liar, all of which I love. I need to get a copy of Sweet Liar and see if I can find my copy of The Duchess. (I've read that one so many times the cover has fallen off.)

I am passionate about any book that can grab me and drag me into it and not want to come back, no matter the genre. The most important part for me in this, I've found, is that the characters be real people and have realistic motivations.

I should get back to work but I thought I would share.

I'll also admit to reading romance novels, though the only ones I've ever been able to really read have been those by Sandra Hill, mostly because she uses humor all the time and it's great, heh. Lots of her stuff involves time travel and other wildly silly ideas, but I've found that if you suspend disbelief long enough to get through it, they're fabulously fun reads. :)

I think you might enjoy some of the romance novels that I have... the only author I've found that I can stomach is Jennifer Crusie. Hugely funny, and while the outcome is usually pretty typical for a romance plot (boy gets girl), the way she gets the story there is priceless. I have a few somewhere in the boxes downstairs...

Leigh has some Deveraux, too.

Also she has some you may be interested in.

Isn't The duchess the one about the girl with like 9 uncles or something? I used to love Knight in Shining Armor.

No, The Duchess is the one about the girl who is an American and she comes to marry the one guy but falls in love with the other one. Lots of scotch in that one.
