Man. Comic Con = movie stuff. *sigh* I must go next year. So many people I want to see. Hugh Jackman, Angeline Jolie, Jeph Loeb, Kevin Smith, Sam Raimi, Robert Englund.... So. Much. Envy.

Not too much today. Plenty after Comic Con, I am sure. Want to go and meet people. Ah well. Everyone I know who is going, have a great time!

No, no... I mean it looks like a screen cap from the movie I've seen before. Like the exact scene looks familar. Not to mention that the hands and faces do look tacked on.

I kinda think it's fake.

The "just giant robes" thing has been done with the ringwraiths, though. There's obviously going to be comparisons, but they may be trying to differentiate them a bit. And it's still entirely possible that the faces will remain hidden until they're delivering the kiss anyways, these are mockups (at best).

That picture is actually significantly creepier than I'd always pictured them, so I'm actually pretty happy with it.

I really hope that's not what the dementors end up looking like. Nowhere near terrifying enough. I expected them to look like living shadows underneath a cloak.

Overall I've been unimpressed with the Harry Potter movies, though. Aimed too much at the young fanbase with an excess of puppeting and pretty visuals but a distinct lack of character and plot. But if they don't make the Dementors *scary* I'll be really disappointed.

From '82 through '01 (twenty San Diego ComiCons), I only missed two -- despite living up here a fair while.

Sadly, since I no longer play/collect CCGs, play in open tabletop RPGs, collect comics or am interested in heading up a department of a major con [again] ... I can't justify membership + airfare + hotel + food + booze + all the goodies/prezzies I'd normally buy [=$1000-$1500 total, 'cause I roll like dat] ... just to meet a few celebrities, attend 2-4 panels, and see some nice people I only see at Con.

OTOH, I have to admit it's a blast, and if I weren't going to be away on a trip, I'd probably do the irrational thing and go.

I'm not poo-poo'ing Diego at all -- just that I've become a bit jaded over the years. It was a hoot moving to the PacNW in '94 ... having people call NorWesCon a "big con"! *chuckle* Compared to GeoCon or RustyCon, sure ... but I think NorWes was ~2000 people that year. I was used to 40-50k/day at Diego.

Of course, if I get back to the point where that kind of cash isn't a big deal to blow ... I'll be going back to Diego regularly again. =)

Yeah, NorWesCon is really the big one around here. It was probably about the same size as WesterCon was this year.

Westercon was way smaller than NorWesCon is.

And it's not fair to compare an industry/media con to a literary con like Norwes (or even WorldCon - those are only about 1/5th the size of ComicCon)
