I'm going to start a colony on the moon.

Ever since high school I had this Heinlein-ish idea of a moon colony full of smart, well rounded people.

I should make a new list of people I want to bring with me.

If it's Heinleinish, that means they're taking every opportunity to fill each other's orifices and spout platitudes.

I hope you've got some space-mops!

Not that side of Heinlein. The sort of elitist utopian parts...

Oh, Heinlein's earlier period, before he got creepy. That's just fine then.

Will this colony have a computer named Mycroft? If so, I'm in.

It's possible.

Maybe at some point.

Of course! Assuming I'm there, I would INSIST on a computer named Mycroft.

My dad said once that his idea of an "ideal retirement job" would be janitor on a moonbase. He'd do any job ... as long as he got there.

most likely, every single person there would have a computer named Mycroft just hoping that theirs will be the real one.

Then we just have to network them together!

Can you imagine a Beowulf cluster of those things?

There should only be one. Just one big computer.

That might be a rule. All computers named Mycroft must become one computer.

Can we have a magnetic catapult, too? I promise not to throw rocks at Earth until they REALLY deserve it...

Maybe later. At first we'd have to concentrate on the surviving part. We could always plan for one at some point.

What about Minerva and Athena? (Yeah, yeah, I've never read tMiaHM)

I would so be all over a moon colony. Or a Mars colony.

Of course. Minerva and Athena are just as important.

Mars is harder to get to.

Well, they came along a few thousand years later, but they eventually woke Mike up by "slipping him into bed" with Athena, sometime after the end of tCwWtW.

Kat's a second-gen gamer. I'm a second-gen Heinlein junkie.

I was thinking about the later becoming people bits. Sure there could be a computer named Mycroft.

But there should only be one.

Sure!

You'll fill the zombie, minion and diva slots. *grins*

Well, "All You Zombies" was a fairly early short story, and Hazel definitely had a diva personality in "The Rolling Stones".

Can we get rid of the rule making it impossible to return to earth if you've been there for a few months?

I haven't made any rules yet. So it's not a rule.

Is this a remake of Moonraker? Do we get to kill all the "non-perfect" people on earth with a species-selective poison made from a tropical plant? ;)

No, no.

I don't want to kill everyone on Earth. I just don't want to have to deal with them making policy and any number of other things.

I'm more of a Mars colony man, myself. But the moon gets me off of Earth, so I'll put in my application.

All good. I figure we can practice on the Moon for anywhere else. At least a little.

I'd prefer Mars (like a lot of people, apparently), but I don't consider myself well-rounded. I'll stay behind and provide logistical support though.
