There is the wild chance the Avalanche could sign Jean-Sebastien Giguere after this season now that Roy has retired. He is a Group II free agent. They could offer him things that the Ducks can't match.

Fear.

Oh... fear.

Well, there should still be a changing of the guard teams wise in the West. There is really only a year or two left in the current line ups of Colorado and Detriot. Dallas will be around for awhile and the Wild and the Canucks have promising futures ahead of them.

As for the Ducks, we will see what the offseason brings. I hope they don't collapse like the Candy Canes did.

I think that it is important to point out that the Ducks are in the game right now while the Avs aren't. I think Jean will probably stay, after all I think there is a little more team loyalty in hockey than most sports...and Jean is a lot closer to the cup right now than he would be if he played for the Avs...

Maybe, maybe not. It's hard to tell how different things would be if he were the Avs goalie now. You can never tell.

The thing is, the Avs desperately need a top notch goalie. The players they have are only going to be in the shape they're in for another year, maybe two. If they want to take another run at it before they rebuild, it will have to be soon.

And there aren't many top shelf goalies that could truly come anywhere close to filling Roy's pads. Most of them aren't moving.
