So... My travel day...
Dec. 29th, 2002 10:58 amThis story starts at 2:30 am Eastern time at my parents time. I had stayed up to 2:30, because I know that I wouldn't have gotten any sleep, or if I had, would have been more tired when I woke up to go to the airport. So, we all pile into the Explorer and head to Marquette. I don't go to sleep like I expected and actaully wake up some. We get to the airport and it isn't open. We are early, so I do not worry.
We finally get into the airport and I discover that the flight I was supposed to be on doesn't actually exist. Instead, there is a flight at 7:30. This will not get me into Detroit on time for my flight to Seattle. So, I get put on a flight leaving at 12:12. Wheeeeee. My parents stick around to make sure that I get on the plane and that the plane leaves. We were heavy and a volunteer got off of the plane and they took some packages off as well.
The flight was nice and we landed well and had the world's longest taxi to the gate. I get into Detroit and go through the cool tunnel to the main terminal. It plays music that sounds like rain storms or waves on the shore and there are colors behind beveled glass pannels and they're normally blues. It is very relaxing. I could spend lots of time down there. Anyway, I go through and go get food. Yum, yum, garlicy bread and yum, yum food.
I go and buy some things because I love the Red Wings and could not resist. Then I go to my gate, riding the neat floating train. It's keen. I had three hours of layover. I read some of my book. I watched some news. Wow, lots happened when I wasn't looking at my news sources every day. They announce a gate change. Yeah! I go down to the new gate and then call Kris to tell her about things. Shortly after they announce another gate change. I go down there. We sit there past boarding time and then they announce there is a repair being made to the plane. There are two time estimates. One is three hours after the other one, depending if the part they need works.
The part works, so we only board an hour and a half later than we should have. We all get onto the plane and out to take off. It starts snowing. We are the first plane that gets stopped to make sure we haven't built up snow or ice on our wings. Finally we take off and we're essentialy flying into the jet stream which means the flight will take longer than normal. Wheeeeee.
The flight was great. The pilot refused to fly through any turbulance he could fly around or over and thusly we had a pretty smooth ride and got in on time. Smoothest landing I think I may have ever had. We taxi to the gate, I get off the plane and go stand and wait for the subway train. Something drips on my head from the construction above and I get on the train.
Sean is waiting for me and while I was glad to see him I was sad to have stolen him from Kris' moving. I didn't mean to at all. So, we wait for luggage. I get one bag and we wait... and wait.... And no other bag. I was in Detroit for four and a half hours and the bag with my clothes on it didn't make it on the plane. Yeah. I was expecting it at that point. I go to lost luggage and they tell me it's on the plane after me and to expect delivery 4-6 hours after it's been gathered so 4-6 hours after 8 that evening, though I "shouldn't expect it after midnight. They'll just deliver it in the morning."
I go with Sean and as we're leaving the parking lot the reader won't take our ticket and let us out. Par for the course. While talking to Kris about dinner, the cell phone diconnects us. This is all distinctly amusing by now. We go to get food and generally have a pleasant time. I get home and stay on-line and chat and some and wait for my luggage.
It gets to 11:45 or so and I can't stay up any longer, so I go to sleep. I wake up this morning and find out that my luggage was delivered at like 1:00 in the morning.
Yeah!
So I'm here now. Still a little tired after having slept. I woke up some time in the night and went back to sleep. Did that like three times. Meh.
