Dec. 16th, 2002 09:31 amYou know, I just thought I would mention that I love hockey. Love it.
There are so many skilled players to watch out there right now. I saw some good cames over the weekend. Markus Naslund scored four goals on Saturday and they were all pretty. Marian Gaborik has three hat tricks this year. He has five in his career a feat only three other players in hockey have accomplished before being 21. He's a big reason the Wild are as good as they are this year, but it is more than that.
The Avs can't seem to win at home, which amuses me to no end. When the Avs have home ice advantage in the playoffs, they've won the Stanley Cup and now they can't seem to win at home and Roy is looking a little more vulnerable.
Mario Lemieux is playing better than I think I've seen him play... since before the cancer at any rate. He's amazing. Makes you remember why they call him Super. He has 55 points this season. That is insane.
You take the top 17 goals scorers in the NHL and there is a 6 goal difference right now and there are some names I don't recognize, which is also great.
And Sergei is one point away from 900 career points. That's 381 career goals and 518 career assists. Not too shabby. 75 of those goals are game winners. It's a telling stat as to how he's playing this year that 7 of those are from this year.
Anyway... I just had to have a hockey geek moment. I love hockey.

Date: 2002-12-16 05:08 pm (UTC)Mario's always been an exciting player, but his health will forever keep him out of the league of Gretzky, Howe, etc. Part of being a great player is resiliency, and Mario just doesn't have that. Cancer aside, he's always had an injury-plagued career. That's why Mario will never be in that upper echelon of players in my book. He's got amazing skill, but he doesn't have the physical stamina to back it up - I don't consider him any better than Sakic or Forsberg, really.
