Not that I mind the Avs making trades that don't make sense and don't seem to benefit them at all... What are they thinking? Trading away Drury and Yelle? For people I've never heard of and, by their stats, seem little better than average?
You're actually a Red Wings fan? That's depressing! I'm still bitter about getting swept in '97. That, and well, the Red Wings have won championships in your life time. Stupid Flyers always being overrated and choking.
This is true, although I think that if the Hurricanes hadn't blown that 1 goal lead in game three (I believe), I think they would have gone on to win the Cup and shock the Red Wings (sorry to say). I think what's interesting is that I think the East's defensive style helps counteract the inbalance of talent. That, and with some of the goaltender's in the NHL, no Stanley Cup Final will probably be a complete and utter blowout.
I do that that was a distinct turning point in the series, yes. I honestly don't think the 'Canes would have won it, though. After the Wings won, I saw the looks on their faces and was like, "Don't worry guys. You'll be here again. Give it a few years and it'll be yours."
I tend to dyslike dynasties. Even when they're my team.
I'll use a comparison to illustrate why I think the Hurricanes would have won. They reminded me a lot of the Patriots, who were less-talented but playing perfect team ball (or puck hehe). Everyone knew their place and performed it well, which can really suffocate an opposing team defensively. However, I think they lacked a clear leader (read: Tom Brady, because he was a leader of the Pats) to really step up and make that play when the team needed it most. Still, I think they were playing well enough that they probably would have won it. Plus Carolina would have been crazy, it was great to see all the fan support.
As for dynasties, I don't think you'll have to worry about your Red Wings (no offense). They got a year older, but more importantly, they lost the greatest coach ever to coach in the NHL.
It's a valid arguement. I think it was possible, but the lost their momentum in a few key places and key times. They made a few too many mistakes and next time they get there, they won't make them, since they'll be older and more experienced.
Oh, I'm not too much. I just dislike this solid hold a few teams seem to have on the Stanley Cup.
