Dec. 31st, 2008 09:08 amSo, I just got an internal ticket entirely in French. Amazingly, I can understand it. However, I'm not entirely sure I could reply in a coherent fashion. My reading comprehension is pretty good but my spoken is so, so, though I can generally understand the general idea of what is /said/ to me.
Japanese is similar but I don't read Japanese much at all but I understand what is said more often than not but my responses are awful and fumbling.
I know this has to do with how I learned these languages. I read a lot of French but spoke rarely and I heard a /lot/ of Japanese but didn't read much and spoke only enough to make sure I was understood and could get home.
The mind is a weird, weird thing.
