So, I just got an internal ticket entirely in French. Amazingly, I can understand it. However, I'm not entirely sure I could reply in a coherent fashion. My reading comprehension is pretty good but my spoken is so, so, though I can generally understand the general idea of what is /said/ to me.

Japanese is similar but I don't read Japanese much at all but I understand what is said more often than not but my responses are awful and fumbling.

I know this has to do with how I learned these languages. I read a lot of French but spoke rarely and I heard a /lot/ of Japanese but didn't read much and spoke only enough to make sure I was understood and could get home.

The mind is a weird, weird thing.

I have the same problem with Spanish and German. My written Spanish/German is better than my spoken of each and my reading comprehension far exceeds my written ability.

What's funny is that my spoken Spanish should be much better than it is, given the amount of practice I got living in way, way South Texas. Maybe some people are just wired for certain types of communication. Hell, I think my written English is better than my spoken English much of the time.

Edited for: terrible mistakes in grammar and sentence structure.

Heh. I know my written English is usually better than my spoken English. I get a lot of wires crossed in my head when I'm trying to speak. A lot of the time my words don't come out the same way I thought them when I'm speaking.

And translated back!

Thus, I just obtained a ticket interns entirely in French. Surprisingly, I can include/understand it. However, I'm not entirely sour which I could answer d' a logical fashion. My comprehension of reading is rather good but my spoken it is thus, thus, although I can generally include/understand l' general idea of what is /said/ to me. The Japanese is similar but I don't read of the Japanese much whole except me include/understand what is generally known as but my answers are terrible and touching. I know that this must make with the way in which j' learned these languages. J' read much French but seldom spoke and j' heard /lot/ of Japanese but of didn't read much and spoke rather only for s' to ensure that j' was included/understood and could arrive at the house. L' spirit is of strange and strange thing.

If you ever want help w/ The Japanese, I'd be glad to assist. I could use the practice myself. Even if it's just the odd short conversation, or "how do you say this?" kind of thing.

That would be cool. I'm going to be jumping into the classes again here, so that would be useful.
