You know, its nearly obscene how happy the Indiana Jones theme can make me.
This is making me think about things that shaped me when I was younger, pop culture things and people. Harrison Ford is high on that list. It's the grin/smirk that got me. It doesn't seem to matter what John Williams score I listen to, they all affect me. (I know they're similar. I know.) But they all effect me in different ways. Robin Williams... I've been a fan of his since Mork and Mindy... when I was born just about. Muppets - anything Henson related. I was so depressed when Jim Henson died. Comic books, even before I was reading them, I was interested in Superman and Spiderman... Madeline L'engle's books... so much to think about there.
Don't know, just thinking a lot about the things that influenced me when I was younger.

Date: 2002-05-16 02:40 pm (UTC)We are what our past made us -- but our past was formed by what we were to become (and are to become -- the present is still shaping and being shaped by the future).
I had no pop culture influences when I was a kid -- I had no TV until I was 5, and was limited to four hours/week until I was 18. I didn't have cable until I was 21.
The only music I listened to as a child was classical.
In a very real sense, games are the only actual cultural connection I have with most of my peers.

Date: 2002-05-16 04:36 pm (UTC)I play (and enjoy) a lot of board games (and card games) -- but a lot of that is generationally out of sync, too.
For example, I enjoy Pinochle. A lot. But, because there aren't three other people that I know who know how to play, I have to play on Yahoo! or Uproar (Uproar's is better, Yahoo's is easier for newbies). And, because it's an "old people game," it's hard to get friends interested in learning to play.
... which reminds me ... I need to find my Pinochle deck ...
