I think I'm going to judge all movies from here on out by the Keanu factor. My definition of the Keanu factor is: "Something that happens in the movie which makes it so you have to re-establish your suspension of disbelief. This could be an actor, a special effect - anything." A movie is not entirely lost if it has a high Keanu factor, it just changes the scale on which I will rank the movie. The Matrix has, for me, three large moments, two of them by the man himself. Anytime I want to say, "Thanks alot, Ted." typically counts. I hvae yet to develop this to a 1 - whatever sort of scale. I think it will be 1 to 10. One being it held my suspension of disbelief throughout the entire movie and 10 being, "Shut up, Ted." where I cannot get back into the movie it has be entirely ruined for me.

I think I will get coffee in the morning fromt he guy who plays the CowBoy Bebop soundtrack. He makes good coffee and doesn't charge me too much. He's like, "Eh. Give me $2.50 and we'll call it good." That and we can chat about anime. It's pretty cool.

There is a list forming of people I want to go out to dinner and have long talks with. Heh. The thing is there aren't enough days to do it. There are enough people that I would love to have long conversations with once a week, that I know there are not enough days in a week to do it. Maybe I'll manage once a month. Mmmmm.

I've got a number of "Scales" -- the most often used are the Overall Movie Scale and the Summer Movie Scale.

And very rarely do the two of them agree.

The Summer Movie Scale is more forgiving of such glaring things as:
Lack of Coherent Storyline
Bad Acting
Lousy Dialogue

But in order to score high on the SMS, you need to have some good Action.
"Kiss of The Dragon" had a low Overall Score, but the Summer Score was pretty high (despite the utterly lame left-field WTF? ending).

"Dude, your stepmom is hot!"
"Shut up, Ted!"
"Remember when we were freshmen, and she was a senior?"
"Shut UP, Ted!"
"And then I asked her to the prom..."
"SHUT UP, TED!!"

The "Keanu moment" is something that brings you out of suspension of disbelief? Can yuo provide some concrete examples?

Okay. When I go into a movie, I let myself believe whatever the movie is trying to tell me. Taht people can fly, that magic exists, whatever. I suspend my disbelief and leave it behind me, waiting for me to pick it back up and put it on like a worn coat. If I don't leave this behidn me, I tear most movies apart and find everything that was wrong or didn't work - plot holes and the like.

There are something in movies that make it so I can't just go with whatever premise they are trying to get me to believe. I come back to the world I live in and go, "Damn it. That can't happen" or "What the hell? What happened to the..." Then I have to try to get back into the movie and allow it to do what it wants.

Keanu typically does this for me. The best example is in the Matrix, I think. "Whoa." He says that and suddenly he's no longer Neo in the Matrix, learning all of these really amazing things. He's Keanu being a moron, or possibly worse, he's Ted.

There are lots of examples between actors and special effects and sometimes the score that pull me out of that zone and make it hard for me to relax and enjoy.

Of course, some movies are more fun when I pick them apart.
