So, this weekend on my way from Chorus rehearsal to the Belgian Beer Festival, I was in a car accident. I was headed east along 45th headed up the hill past the University Village and a young woman took a left in front of me across the double yellow. Alas, the front end of my noble Tracer X was crunched in and the chances are that he is, in fact, a total loss. This is unsurprising to me as, well, the last accident he was in was also deemed as such and there is a /lot/ more damage to him in this accident.

So, later today, I'm going to go get a rental car that the other driver's insurance is providing and get all of my stuff out of my dearest car. I really, really don't want to go shopping for a new car since a) a lot of money and b) a lot of hassle but, well, it really looks like fixing my darling car will cost me more than buying a quality used car. Not that I really know how to do that. It isn't as though I've ever actually done this whole used car shoping thing, except with my dad in high school.

I'm physically okay, a little sore and twingy at times but I'm okay - everything works just fine.

Much thanks to Ben and Meredith for coming out to be with me after the accident. Having never really been in one like that before, I was generally a bundle of useless.

And now I am sad because he's still a perfectly fine working car, except his front end is smashed in and it'll cost too much to fix him. It feels silly to be so emotional about a car but, well, there it is.

Well, the most important thing is that you're all right. Some post-accident soreness is normal.

Yeah.

My biggest issue is going to be going and clearing out my old car, Tracer X. Just thinking about it making me sniffly. Seriously. I'm a wreck over here.

The same thing happened with my first Battlewagon. Having to clear out all the various decorations, then finally taking it to the mechanic for use as parts... heart-wrenching.

Glad to know I'm not the only one who is this way.

Jesus! I'm glad to hear you're okay.

Get into a chiropractor in the next week or two to get checked out for whiplash. The worst effects tend to be long term and it's a boon to the healing process to get it addressed as soon as possible.

Yeah. I'm going to talk to the insurance people when the guy handling my case is in tomorrow and see about getting someone to look at me. I feel okay but, well, my back was screwed up to begin with.

Mel was very sad when her Mazda died and she would be devastated if her new Scion had an issue, so it's not just you.

My old car wasn't that badly damaged when the same thing happened to me -- though at a lower speed of 30mph or so; the cost of resetting the airbag, making sure the engine was okay, etc. was considered too much on a 5+yr old vehicle and the insurance company deemed it a total loss.

Ah car shopping... me no like.

I was going 30ish, too. So, yeah. My car is 20 years old so, still much about the same.

I'm grateful you're okay. Car accidents are scary, scary things.

As someone's already mentioned, do keep tabs on yourself healthwise, because apparently some injuries don't show immediately, and if you don't get checked out thoroughly now but find out later on... well, you know how insurance is about that, I bet.

My rec on used cars? Find a relatively small dealership, if possible. They're more likely to give you better service than a huge lot with a shit-ton of cars, if only because they know that even if you don't buy, there'll be someone else coming in the door ten minutes later. Smaller places have to make the effort for your business, and they need the good word of mouth that larger places don't really care about. And I totally recommend asking for a Carfax report (a good dealership will do that for you for free without prompting, IMO, but if they don't, ask).

Thanks for the tip. I'm not even mentally up to looking yet but that is a good thought on the dealership size. I'm feeling a little crunchy but not much different than normal, really. Still, I'm going to go in and get looked at.

I still miss my Grunge Buggy sometimes, so you're not alone in this. We can get attached.

I'm glad you're (physically) okay, and here's hoping that the post-collision-head-mess settles down soon. <3.
