Warner Brothers has hired script writers for Green Lantern 2. Same guys who are writing Flash. Expect there to be a Flash announcement at SDCC. It would be the smart time/place to do it if they have anything. (And there have been hints that it will be coming soon.)

Paramount Pictures and MTV Films announced today that they are set to develop a movie around mega-producer Les Grossman. Nnnnnnnn.

Columbia Pictures announced that Men in Black III (soon to be called "MIIIB" - trust me) will hit theaters on May 25, 2012. That's the date that Battleship was going to open. Universal has decided to move Battleship a week earlier on May 18, 2012.

Entertainment Tonight has some Thor pictures up but they're not very clear. I'd recommend watching the show if you really want to see them. And some of them look amazing even when sort of blurry. http://www.aintitcool.com/node/45428

Um isn't Rapunzel supposed to be the point of the movie...? So why is she in like 10 seconds of the preview?

Grrr.

Also, I can;t believe that they are getting around to a third MiB and *groan* Battleship! There are so many good, original scripts out there. Just makes me nutty to see so many sequels, lame remakes, and movies made from board games.
Ahhh well.

I think, as I understand it, they're trying to focus a little less on the Princess line, thus the shift in focus.

Because this juggernaut of a brand that had dominated the girls' toy industry for the last 20 years has somehow become less viable?
I know they are hoping for boys to be more interested, but it's a princess movie, they aren't going to be fooled.
The magic of Alladin isn't going to be repeated by tacking on a character to a movie based on a short faerie tale where the prince isn't even named.
Blergh, I don't want to rant all over your LJ but the more I see about Tangled, the more ill I feel about it.

Because, as indicated by buying Marvel and thus a line of superheroes that appeal to boys, Disney is worrying (rightly or wrongly) that it isn't courting boys. Thus the renaming and the rewriting...

*shrugs* I think you have to add more depth to the guy who shows up in Rapunzel in order to make it into a movie to begin with. Do I agree that he should be the main character? No but I do see where he can become the 'voice of the audience' character.

So the Rapunzel film actually looks really cute. And kudos to Disney for turning a princess story into a story aimed at boys, and then making the Princess actually awesome and more than a Damsel in Distress. I will treasure the image of her beating the shit out of him with her hair for likely the rest of my life.
