The word on the street is that the villain (the ONLY) villain in Spider-Man 4 will be The Lizard. It isn't as if there hasn't been some build up there. It is a strong source (per Marketsaw) but these things do shift and change in the process.

Tristan Jones, the current writer of the “Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” comics, revealed that Mirage Studios, Inc. will close on December 31, 2009 because of the new deal with Nickelodeon. Those they will 'close' then, there will be comics coming out until May 2010. Peter Laird, who made the deal, can still publish “Turtles” comics “between 32 and 48 pages" and up to 18 issues a year. Mirage can no longer publish any trade paperbacks.

MovieHole got their hands on the character descriptions for Conan. They look like Conan character descriptions. Example: [CONAN] He's in his 20s to early 30s, Caucasian, powerfully built, broad-shouldered, sun browned skin lined with scars. Piercing blue eyes and square-cut black mane, tall. If you go looking for the rest of the character, possible story spoilers wait for you.

The new Short Circuit movie is still kicking. They have a director now - Steve Carr. He directed Paul Blart: Mall Cop. Hooray?

Director George Miller says the many vehicles for the new Mad max movie are so intricate that it could take a year just to build all of them. So... there!

Variety reports that Matt Damon and Josh Brolin are in talks with Joel and Ethan Coen to join Jeff Bridges in the True Grit remake.

The Other Guys is being filmed right now. It is a comedy and it has Samuel L. Jackson, Mark Wahlberg, Will Ferrell and The Rock. Sam Jackson and The Rock are playing the bad ass cops and Wahlberg and Ferrell will be playing "The Other Guys" per the title. I'll be there and Sam and the Rock think you should be there too. http://splashnewsonline.celebuzz.com/2009/10/the-other-guys-action-scenes.html?bfm_index=5

Rumor has it that Keira Knightley won the part of Eliza Dolittle in the new My Fair Lady.

The New York Times says that Stephen King will co-write a new series titled "American Vampire" for Vertigo imprint. The title's first five-issue arc will feature two 16-page stories, one written by King and the other written by Scott Snyder. Rafael Albuquerque will illustrate for both. The word is that they will be Americanizing vampires.

Neill Blomkamp, director of District 9, has another sci-fi film starting in 2010, which is not a sequel to District 9 but that is likely to be on the way as well.

Daniel Craig says that James Bond 23 will start filming at the end of 2010.

Dear Kat,

Please excuse my profanity, but what the fuck does "Americanizing" vampires even mean?

Hating Stephen King,

Well, vampires as a concept (Lestat and Louis - even Angel to a large extent) are very European creatures. Spike is American-ish, even with the accent. I can see where that is coming from, actually. While there are certainly any number of vampire who were technically American at creation, most of the trappings we seem to give them, the mannerisms, are not American.

I think Bill Compton from the Sookie novels is a good start but he's even Civil War era and a time when the ties that bind a new country like America was at that point were might tighter. A country that's only been around for 300 years, I think, wouldn't have had too much of a chance to make its own brand of immortal undead things.

Spike and, perhaps, Decon Frost, I think would be good examples of "American" vampires - a different breed, a break from what has come before. I don't think it is so much a nationality thing as a mindset, way of viewing the archtype.

"Sullen". They forgot "sullen".

But seriously, that sounds exactly like the famous cover Frazetta did that first expressed the image of Conan the way that REH described him. I think I will look for spoilers; maybe I can determine which story/ies inspire the movie.
