OMG! SCI-FI is all about manly men, you girls and gays couldn't possibly ever like /real/ sci-fi. Stop ruining it!

*shakes her head*

I am obviously not the target audience for this article. I get the feeling I don't want to meet that target audience, either.

Thank you for sharing that article. Obviously, serious science fiction fans are not the target audience for that article.

The 'About' section reads a bit too much like 'Fight Club' for my liking, and one of the sites he links to has this as their subheader: 'A blog about how technology will lead to men being liberated from feminism and related issues.'

:3 It's pretty spiffy, if I do say so myself.

Any man who thinks they need to be "liberated from feminism" really must have no idea what it stands for. And is likely part of the problem >

Wow. I couldn't read more than a few sentences. I think I would have left a comment if I hadn't seen this one:

“The new series instead had lots of… men whining”

Not unlike this post.

I love that person.

In that sites favor, there was some good conversation in the comments.

Huh... I guess David Weber, Lois McMaster Bujold, Eric Flint and Linda Evans aren't 'real' sci fi authors. Or this guys crazy... I think I'll go with the crazy option.

How quickly they forget that without women none of them would've been born boys to be inspired by science fiction.

To say nothing of the fact that Starbuck wasn't //really// a woman by some people's estimation, but a woman in a role that was written as a man.

The Starbuck thing loses me every time. Are people just threatened by her?

Also, they maybe be mistaking self-insert power fantasy stories for all of the science fiction genre. And I wonder what genre they think Frankenstien fits into.

I read it, and then forced myself to read the comments.

...wow. also: can I beat whoever came up with the term 'mangina'? bloody hell...

That is one of the terms I would prefer never to hear or read again.

Another round of someone making assertions and thinking that constitutes "proof," I see.

I'm sorry...I was too busy cooking, cleaning, and doing laundry before I sat down on the couch for a much needed break full of chocolate bonbons and hours of watching Lifetime Movie Network...what was the article about? Please use itty-bitty cutesy-wootsie words that my widdle bwain can understand...what does "sci-fi" stand for anyway...?

The linked article by the original starbuck was an even bigger treat.

The first reply is priceless:
Dirk, buddy, no offense, but the orginial Battlestar sucked on toast. It was a shamelss attempt by the networks to cash in on the Star Wars craze. Frankly, the remake isn't much better, given that it mistakes sullen glares with profound truth.

However, deconstructing the current Battlestar as somehow betraying the masculine purity of the original or whatever you were blathering about makes me fear that you haven't saved your A-Team money.

Oh, yeah. I'd read that before, so it just lent itself to the author's lack of .... sense.
