There is a large rumor going around about something being discussed by Marvel and Disney and that is bringing back the $1.99 price for comics. It seems like it would be a Disney move - even if they lose money on the comics, they'd make it on the movies (provided they were well done.)

The Hollywood Reporter has an article about the producer of “Chuck”. You see, it seems he has landed a new show on Fox. He’ll be developing “an epic Western with a sci-fi twist, the show will revolved around ‘a gunslinger caught between worlds’.” Because the last Sci-Fi Western did so well on Fox. And... I don't know. We'll see. I like "Chuck" lots and lots....

Director Peter Berg has confirmed to MTV that Charlize Theron AND Will Smith will return for Hancock 2. Hrmmmm. That was a movie that had so much potential but didn't execute well on that potential.

Aaron Eckhart says he'd gladly play Harvey Dent again but doesn't think that's the way things will go and that going on after The Dark Knight and Heath Ledger's death will be challenging.

Brand spanking new DC Entertainment President Diane Nelson told Comic Book Resources about her desire to prioritize several DC properties on the movie making track including "Superman," "Wonder Woman," and "Justice League". I would add "Flash" to that list but that's a really good start right there.

It looks like the Masters of the Universe movie will not be made at Warner Brothers. We'll see if it ends up anywhere else.

The word is that "Howling Mad" Murdock in The A-Team is going to be District 9 star Sharlto Copley. This is brilliant if it is true.

Heat Vision reports that Mandy Moore will voice Rapunzel in Disney's next hand drawn feature, and Zachary Levi has been cast as the voice of the bandit who finds himself on the road with her. (Seemingly he is, as of yet, unnamed.)

Bryan Fuller left “Heroes” in mid-June to write two pilots for NBC. Here are the details on these two pilots - Fuller and Bryan Singer are working on an hourlong show based on Augusten Burroughs’ novel “Sellevision". I haven't read it but it seems to be dark comedy about shopping channels and their hosts. They other one is for a prospective workplace sitcom titled “No Kill,” about an animal shelter that, obviosuly, doesn't kill the animals.

I would so very much like them to make a Wonder Woman movie that didn't suck.

Agreed. Hell, I'd love a BoP show TV show that didn't totally suck.

I mean, it would have been a cooler Charlie's Angels. GAH.

Honestly, I'm not convinced that a lower price point will cause that much of an increase in sales. If Disney is convinced that "more comics sales" will imply "more movie profits", we'll probably start seeing Disney-leverage to get marvel comics in more distribution channels (WalMart, iTunes store, mall kiosks).

Alternately, they could decide to "spin down" the dead-tree division and focus on translating the "core" customers to a different medium - webcomics, downloadable comics for game consoles, something.

I'll be very, very surprised if Disney/Marvel does anything results in drawing significantly more people into comic book stores.

Well, I think the thought is that lower prices = more comic sales and profit lost at the comics level can be made up at the movie level. Disney has different channels open to them easily for comics, though.

So last night I saw a reference to something that happened at the end of Trinity. "Huh! I missed that," I thought, and then had to go fish through my "staging box" for as yet unsorted comics to find it and then read it.

So yeah, I'm all about trying to come up with some sort of iPod/Kindle solution to comics. I'd love to have them all available to me at all times instead of being in a whole bunch of long boxes. Would suck for comic stores though...

$1.99 would make ME happy at least if it spread to DC.

Oh, yes. $1.99 comics would definitely make anybody who already collects comics "happy", no doubt about that.

I'm just not convinced that there is a strong case for:
"existing comic book collectors are happier" => "significantly increased sales" => "nontrivial increase in movie revenue"

... which would be a requirement for the "comics as a loss leader" strategy.

Actually I could see it making a difference as at $3/4, I'm constantly finding myself questioning titles. I'm always asking myself if I'm getting my money's worth out of the hobby and have thought about quitting quite a few times in this scary year. Cut the price by a third or a half, and I'll start picking up new titles instead of finding reasons to drop old ones.

I read Sellevision a few years ago. It's actually a pretty interesting, amusing read. If they can translate it well to the screen, it'll be a fun show.

I'd love a good Wonder Woman movie.

...

Preferably one without Diana Prince.

...You're telling me two openly gay writers are adapting an openly gay author's extremely gay book which has an openly gay main character?

And it's gonna be on NBC?

Huh. What do you know, maybe that Network Responsibility Index can effect some change after all. Go GLAAD.
