Last night Polka decided that she really, really, really needed to get my attention. She climbed up on top of me and batted me in the face with her cold, cold paws and then kneeded my face some with her claws. I have no idea what was so important that she needed to do this four or five times. It makes me a little tired this morning.

I'm having one of those days where everything feels just a little... off.

I don't often get upset about fannish things (not really upset, occasionally I'll flail for a few moments about something) but there are comments here that really bother me: http://io9.com/5272808/why-all-the-wonder-woman-hate I didn't need a reason to dislike Bendis more but I certainly have one now. That said, the author does a good breakdown here, I think. She isn't a simple flat character and I think that's why I like her so much.

And now I work. Maybe later I'll talk about all of my wanderings in my brain. Or perhaps the Tonys! Or maybe my weekend.

Gotta love the taste of rampant misogyny in the morning.

No kidding.

Gah. There are so many things there that I want to tear into.

STD farm? Really?

Jackass.

Geez.

Wanna bet Bendis comes back and is all like 'I was kidding!'? And that fans will eat it up?

Shit, if McDuffie can get canned for being public about editorial dictation on Justice League, Bendis should get some flack for this.

I don't care if he was kidding or not. It says something that he can even say it jokingly. I agree, though, that there are a lot of people who would just welcome him back lovingly, 'Awwww, it's just intercompany rivalry!' or something like that.

Yeah, see, and it's those people who need to be stopped. :)

I also don't care if he was kidding or not; it's just so tasteless. What is he like 12?

Most of the comments I'm pulling together end up being general grumbling with hissing intermitent.

Funny that..

Perhaps. It seems as likely as anything else.

Bendis is just a jackass and anyone who has met him at a convention will tell you the same thing.

I collected WW when George Perez was on assignment, lo these many years ago. The story telling and art were,in a word, perfect.

But after Perez left, my interest trailed. I'm a visual kinda guy.

There has been a lot of good Wonder Woman since Perez. Rucka's run was fantastic and I like Gail Simone's. The Aaron Lopresti art currently is amazing.

Oh, I'm not denying that. I think that Rucka's art is fantastic, but Post-Perez they had someone who wasn't as visually interesting. So....well, and I haven't collected since the early 90s anyway.

Rucka's a writer. He had various artists. And WW's 90s run with the bike shorts was just... no. Bad.

He is. He's also a very nice man, and his girlfriend Allison is also a very nice person. I got a sketch from him at ECCC. I need to get that framed.

Wonder Woman, I think, never really recovered from being in Superfriends. Unlike Batman and Superman, she hasn't had any mainstream appearances to contradict a fairly ridiculous portrayal.

I wish I didn't like Bendis' writing so much, almost everything I hear about him makes him sound like a tremendous ass.

That's, actually, a good point. The animated movie is a good start but there needs to be something more, I agree.

I've liked a few thigs he's done but it isn't nearly enough to offset the things I don't.

I'm wondering if Alex Ross' take on Wonder Woman in 'Spirit of Truth' has been considered here.

or "Wonder Woman: The Hiketeia" by Ruka

or "JLA: League of One" by Moeller

Well, I'm sure the guy writing the article has more than a small clue. The real issue here is that these stories are not well known in the general public. I think League of One and Hiketeia are fantastic Diana stories and show her off very well.

I gotta say, though, I desperately do *not* think Joss is the answer to Wonder Woman problems. Neither is Megan Fox. Gina Torres, maybe, but not Megan Fox.

I don't know who the answer is, really, but I do think she needs a solid script treatment and a non-animated movie as soon as possible.

Holy crap. Those people are idiots and it's clear they haven't actually read any Wonder Woman...in like the last 15 YEARS.
