Michael J. Fox will be on‘Rescue Me,” which is starting Season Five tonight. He will play a paraplegic and will appear in five episodes. I love this show. It is gritty and unappologetic and that's what I like about it.

Mandalay Pictures has acquired theatrical rights to and will develop a big-screen version of "Full Metal Panic". It looks like Zac Effron is being looked at to star. There haven't been many anime to live-action cross overs that have done well...

Iron Man 2 set photos are starting to trickle out. Not much to see just yet. Though there is a rumor we'll be seeing a love triangle... (Ahem, Pepper, Tony and Natasha)

Arisia and Kilowog! Arisia and Kolowog! http://movies.yahoo.com/movie/1810077708/video/12839105 And, y'know, some guy named Jordan.

Ryan Carnes, possibly better known as Laszlo from Doctor Who, or maybe as Justin from Desperate Housewives will play The Phantom for Sci...Syfy when they launch the show again later this year. In other news Tahmoh Penikett and Laura Vandervoort will star in "Riverworld". The premise of that one is interesting (the leads die and wake up in a world that has everyone who has ever died in it...) and it has Alan Cumming in it, so... I'll probably tune in for an episode or two.

House was ... intense last night. Totally unexpected, for me at least. If you haven't seen last night's show, I'll put this Kal Penn says, "I’m going to be the associate director in the White House office of public liaison." So, he's going to go work at the White House. Go him! My mental image of the White House just got a little more "West Wing".

The first reviews on Star Trek are startin to come in (Man, that's soon. I need to start looking for tickets for a few of these...) and they're all really positive. Which is sort of amazing.

Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood starts April 9th in Japan. Funimation will begin offering the series on it's website starting on April 13th. Not sure if it is a total reboot or if the website will be subbed or what. I loved the original FMA, though. I should really get that on DVD.

Turn Coat, the new Harry Dresden book came out today. Hooray!

I absolutely LOVE "Rescue Me." It's messy and real, and you're right, it doesn't apologize for that. I can't wait for the new season...

It is no where near politcally correct and some times it shocks me with that and you know what? That's totally cool.

I LOVE Full Metal Panic so much. That said... I've not seen any movies with Zac Effron so I can't say whether or not hewould be a good choice or not... I'm assuming he would be playing Sousuke? I wonder who would make a good Kaname.

He's pretty much just been in High School Musicals, I think, though he has one coming out soon that looks genuinely funny - sort of like Big but more sitcom-y.

Didn't scifi do an attempt at Riverworld, like, five years ago? Maybe it was seven years ago. It was full of... really bad acting?

Hopefully this is a new attempt at it and it won't suck rather than them dragging stuff out of their vaults.

Yes, the did. This is a new attempt. I don't expect it to fare too much better, though the actors they have are at least people I recognize this time.

Riverworld is unfilmable. Seriously.

Philip Jose Farmer did a phenomenal job with the stories, but I don't think they'll translate well to film, as they require too much explanation - especially once you start discussing wathans and chordates.

I have a fairly long attention span, but even I get bored at fifteen pages of dialogue with very little action.

... of course with Farmer dead less than two months, now is an excellent time to push forward with projects based on his work.

I think I'd like to read these. Must put them on the list.

Agreed. You have the potential for some gorgeous visuals in the series, mind you, but ... eh. You can get the gorgeous visuals by reading them.

Rather than adapting the whole series, if I were Queen of Hollywood and Empress of the Known Universe, I'd suggest doing Riverworld stories. PJF did some short stories set there, after all, and other bits and pieces could probably be excerpted without too much damage--relatively speaking, that is.

Agreed - but unless you're Rod Serling (or ripping him off), an anthology series with different characters every episode is hard to sell.

On the other hand, I'd love to see someone tackle the Star Trek universe with that approach - every week, we'd see a different ship and a different crew (with occasional returns and crossovers and so on). You could even do it in multiple eras, which allows last week's Ensign to be next week's featured Captain.

That? Is a show I'd watch. Provided the writing didn't totally suck. Which it probably would. Which is a crying shame.

Different characters every episode, yeah, though you could probably pitch a franchise type option, with Riverworld: Mark Twain vs Riverworld: Tom Mix vs Riverworld: Sir Richard Francis Burton or however ... whichever characters/teams are deemed most marketable.

I like your Star Trek idea.

The problem with that is that your average GenX-er (and younger) won't know who Tom Mix is. We don't care much about Sir Richard Francis Burton, and Mark Twain as a character has been done to death on Star Trek: The Next Generation (among others). In fact, I think the Boomers were the last generation to know who Tom Mix was.

Unfortunately, this means that the "leading characters" of the Riverworld stories rely on these characters - and, without that connection clicking, we are unaware of a great deal of depth that would make us care more for the characters.
