For yoooouuuuu
Feb. 11th, 2009 12:35 pmTom Cruise is in talks to star with Denzel Washington in The Matarese Circle. That might sound familiar as it was a Robert Ludlum thriller before this. Then again, it might not.
If you want to see the new Angels & Demons trailer, it is up at MSN. It doens't seem to link well for me.
SWEET! "Valve just announced via press release that the much anticipated Left 4 Dead downloadable content will be the best price of all, FREE. This applies to both Xbox 360 users and PC gamers, and includes all the previously announced DLC content. The L4D Survival Pack will include:
New Multiplayer Game Mode called Survival; think Horde in Gears 2, with Zombies and Complete Campaigns for Versus Mode called Death Toll and Dead Air."
If there are any Star Wars faithful left out there, this might be of interest: “Star Wars: The Old Republic,” a comic coming out soon and is set thousands of years previous to the films, set in “Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic.” The series will be written by Rob Chestney, one of the developers for the video game, and appear biweekly on Fridays at www.starwarstheoldrepublic.com.
The Hollywood Reporter has news on two new superhero TV series in the works. First up, Mark Valley will play the lead in Fox's "Human Target". If you don't know it, it will be based on the DC Comics publication of the same name.
ABC has given the green light to a single-camera comedy pilot "No Heroics." Written by Jeff Greenstein and original (another remake of a British show) show creator Drew Pearce, the show is about a group of superheroes with less-than-formidable powers who hang out at a bar.
Zachary Levi, star of "Chuck," has been cast in Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel. Whee?
Oh Grant Morrison - http://comics.ign.com/articles/950/950703p1.html "Some people read comics like they consume burgers and they really don't want them ever to taste even a little different." Y'know, I don't mind it when things are different. I just don't like it when someone offers me filet mignon and it turns out to be anchovy soup.
Kevin James, Chris Rock, Adam Sandler, Rob Schneider and David Spade are in negotiations to star in an untitled comedy for Columbia Pictures.
Woody Allen has set Josh Brolin and Anthony Hopkins in his new movie. It will be filming in London this summer.
Paramount Pictures announced today that a third trailer for Star Trek is planned to be in theaters with Watchmen.

Date: 2009-02-11 09:31 pm (UTC)Best part of the article, "It was DC's biggest-seller last year and one of only two DC books to challenge Marvel's dominance of the top ten sales charts. The other was Batman R.I.P. which kinda goes to show that the silent majority of readers actually enjoy the so-called crazy stuff and will always come back for more."
...or it shows that if you have a company wide crossover book and a widely promoted storyline featuring the blerping BATMAN, it's likely to sell well even if people were just buying them because they wanted to know what the new status quo of the DC Universe would be...
It was a little infuriating though to know that my reaction to the Super Fun Team wasn't a failing on my end to understand how they fit in. They were designed to be a complete waste a time as a mockery of other new teams that didn't last. Well thanks for providing extra confusion and pointless characters in a story that already had too much of both.

Date: 2009-02-11 09:43 pm (UTC)About one third of the entire series was this storyline: GL was falsely accused of a crime, the Guardians didn't believe him, and right when it looked like Darkseid would get away with his plan, his puppet revealed himself for no apparent reason. Then all of the Lanterns rushed back to earth... and then rushed back to earth... and then rushed back to earth... and returned and made one attack on the bad guy... the end.
...and that was the storyline that was coherent and designed to let people understand what was going on. I still don't know what happened to Batman between issues 2 (I think it was) and the scene where he reappeared in 6... And I defy anyone to give me a 3-5 sentence explanation of what happened in FC7 that would sound at all interesting. For all of his talk of high concept and craziness, NOTHING HAPPENED!

Date: 2009-02-11 10:00 pm (UTC)"Batman isn't really even necessary to the equation. Superman is going to save the day, because when you break them down into their archetypes, that's what he does. Darkseid was in no shape to face Superman, bullet or not.
"Batman avenges. Superman saves. Wonder Woman wears goth gear and rides giant dogs."

Date: 2009-02-12 01:44 am (UTC)I can't comment on Final Crisis since I'm only up to #4, (I've got boxes of comics I'm working on catching up on), but I loved Infinite Crisis especially because how things changed. I liked Civil War too (especially now that Secret Invasion explained away some, though definitely not all, of the weird character choices in that).
On the other hand, you have changes that just don't make any sense, like One More Day in the Spider-man comics, or House of M in the X-Men. Final Crisis may be one of these, but for me personally, I can't say until I finish reading it.
