Jeff Robinov (Warner Bros. Pictures Group President) has told The Wall Street Journal that Warner Brothers is going to be reintroducing Superman. It sounds like we're going The Hulk route with that one. Hrmmmm.

Jon Favreau has announced that he's started working on Iron Man 2.

Nicolas Cage, Aaron Johnson and Lyndsy Fonseca will star in Kick-Ass. Matthew Vaughn will be adapting the comic by Mark Millar and John Romita Jr. Should be interesting to see where people go with this one.

Wondering where that Comic Con harassment policy thing has gone? I like this. And this article points to an interesting effect in the community in general.

I'm looking forward to the new Knight Rider simply because KITT does transformation things!

Quantum of Solace's release date has been pushed back a week. This is to help make up for the Harry Potter move.

Unsurprisingly, a third "Stargate" series, "Stargate: Universe," will launch early next year on the SciFi Channel, because they have one last chance to get Galactica viewers to stick around to watch something else on their channel. The plot sounds like someone took Farscape and Voyager and SHOVED THEM TOGETHER. Wheeeeee! "After unlocking the mystery of the Stargate's ninth chevron, a team of explorers travels to an unmanned starship called the Destiny, launched by The Ancients at the height of their civilization as a grand experiment set in motion, but never completed. What starts as a simple reconnaissance turns into a never ending mission, as the Stargate Universe crew discovers the ship is unable to return to Earth, and they must now fend for themselves aboard the Destiny. The crew will travel to the far reaches of the universe, connecting with each of the previously launched Stargates, thus fulfilling the Destiny's original mission."

I'm always pleased when I see outrage turn the corner into productivity. "This is a problem ... let's do something about it!" is the right way to deal with this.

"GenCon and SakuraCon both have anti-harassment policies - why doesn't Comic-Con?" can be a very powerful argument.

Agreed. When you see DragonCon on that list, I think that sort of seals the deal there. And the anti-feminist comments make me grumpy.

I haven't seen many anti-feminist comments on this one. The "why do we need a policy prohibiting behavior that is already illegal" meme seems to be a bit more common.

Of course, the boards I'm looking up now have a lot of comments deleted, and my eyes tend to gloss over when faced by a massive wall of unthreaded comments. Presumably, those deleted comments represented the pinnacle of stupid and mean.

In all actuality, a policy like that would probably be damn near useless.

But it would be a GESTURE.

Ah, yes, a gesture. That it certainly would be. So, why doesn't SDCC rush right out and do it, given how well the comic feminist culture (and pretty much the comic culture in general)responds to token gestures to their complains (whether they are valid or not)?

Oops... looks like I answered my own question, doesn't it?

I don't know what I find more insulting: That you would actually suggest that such a token gesture would be accepted by the feminist comic community (when any fool who steps online knows how false that is), or that you think SDCC and others so stupid to actually believe that line of crap?

You want a real solution? Read this: http://digitalfemme.com/journal/index.php?itemid=932

THAT is a solution (not to mention empowering). It sure as hell beats a token gesture, which wouldn't just be unaccepted by the group it was done for, but give them all yet ANOTHER reason to attack the comic industry and its fandom (I can see the blogging posts now: "How stupid do they think we are?! Do they really think telling people in the program inappropriate touching isn't tolerated is good enough?! Just another fine example of how little regard the industry and male comic fans have for women! Those sexist bastards!").

Yeah, I really wonder why SDCC isn't rushing to put that notice in their programs....."

That one stood out for me at least. But that was on one of the linked to arguments.

AH. That's usually not the profile I look for when the phrase "anti-feminist" is mentioned. This woman claiming that she will respond to harrassment with violence, while seeming to dismiss the "feminist" comic-book community as perpetual whiners who don't want to DO anything - to me, that seems to be emphatically feminist - perhaps a bit schizmed from the mainstream. "Anti-feminist" for me conjured notions much more along the lines of Limbaugh fans trolling the forums - my misunderstanding.

Yes, I see why this makes you grumpy.

Fair enough. It just seemed like, "OMG! Why would you listen to women in comics because you can't ever make them happy!" While, yes, there are some crazy ass feminists out there who will never be happy no matter what you do, it makes me upset that someone thinks /nothing/ should be done because no matter what you do someone will be unhappy.

That's crap.

And you know, in an ideal world every woman would feel comfortable telling someone to screw off when someone acts inappropriately toward her. (And men as well, in the cases where /that/ happens. And it does, though more rarely.) In an even more ideal world that sort of crap wouldn't happen at all. We don't live there.

Exactly. Every time somebody stands up for themselves is a Good Thing, that should be applauded and encouraged - but cannot and should not be a Universally Required Prerequisite to being treated like a human being.

I haven't really been following the discussion of Comic Con harassment policies, but they should definitely have some. I'd never before heard of a con that didn't.

That aside, I wanted to comment on the new Stargate series. I don't think they're trying to get Galactica viewers with this. (They'll have Caprica for that, after all.) They've specifically said they want to aim this new series at younger viewers. Give the show a 'young, hip vibe'. And really, that's what's worrying me. If they were aiming at Galactica viewers, I'd actually be happy. Galactica's a mature drama.

And yet I cannot imagine it will be as good as either.

Which is not a good sign. Loved Farscape. Voyager was scary.

...didn't Stargate: Atlantis have a similar premise? I never watched it much, but wasn't it about a stargate team stuck on a masive ship out in the middle of nowhere?

It was a Stargate team stuck on a base created by the Ancients but honestly they killed off the isolation of that part really fast.
