What to do?

So, because of how we're changing our personal time policy, I now (a little too freaking late to be REALLY USEFUL) have enough personal time to day off every Friday between her and the middle of October. It would have been handy to have that, oh, I don't know, last week, but that's they way of the world, isn't it? While giving myself a bunch of three day weekends sounds lovely, it doesn't really work since there is stuff I need to get done and when I'm not here, it doesn't get done and it just waits around for me.

So, does anyone have any ideas of how to not waste this lovely time off and also not get ambushed by too much work?

Also, I am cutting pastries and fried foods out of my diet entirely. They sneak in all over the place but I'm cutting them out. I've been eating a /lot/ more fruit recently. I'm not sure how this eating a whole bunch of times a day thing is really going. I need to keep working on it.

I've seen a '50 things I love about comic books' thing going around. I'll try to do that later but picking 50 and not have is just be a list of people and characters... I need to think about it some.

Take every Friday off and just work via email from your favorite coffee shop?

If I'm working, I'm not really taking the time off. Working from home (or where ever) isn't really taking the time off.

But sometimes being away from the office is a good thing regardless.

Apart from that - road trip!!!!!

That's true.

I'd have to trust Tracer X to get me there. He's a good car but I'm not sure how far I want to push him.

My boss' boss is going to Greece. I am very envious.

It'd be cooler if he was going to Grease!

Well, it would likely be less hot, certainly.

I'm just saying. Greece in September is not likely to be a place I'd want to be. Toooo warm.

Yeah, it would be a scorcher.

How flexible is the time?

Every Friday Off = 8 Hrs per week.

Why not come in two hours late four days per week?

Hrmmmm.

There is something there... *ponders* It would be nice to sleep in.

Or 2 hours on Monday, and 1.5 hours the rest of the week ...

:)

I did something similar back when I worked for PNWT. I took every Thursday off, and was two hours late every Monday for a very long time.

Salaried, so minimal time off is 8 hours, you can't be charged for fractional days.

I second this. Late arrival/early departure a few days a week might be good. You'd still be getting work done and perhaps you can (per your comments on a thread below) squeeze in a few tasks daily for organization/cleaning, as you'll have the "extra" time.

I have the same problem. I have 2.5 weeks of vacation left that goes *poof* on 9/30. Mel doesn't have any time off at all. I might take a week off in Sept to organize some computer stuff at home but other than that vague idea, I think I'm just going to eat it all.

Some part of me wants to take like two days off and go crazy cleaning the apartment but I don't know if I took the time off, I'd actually have the dedication to, you know, actually do that.

Well at least you'd spend the time THINKING about cleaning the apartment. That works just as well, right?

Oh sure.

Y'know, that works great.

I'd be up for helping with that. We'd just have to break out sections of the apartment to be done at certain times.

Maybe something involving gold stars? :)

Gold star!

Heh. I just want to find a way to tackle the kitchen and bathroom and make them something that can be handled. I'm limited on both because even the cleaning of the shower I did this morning has my hands breaking out like mad.

I am a block time-taker. I like to travel too much to do it any other way.

I do too but I don't really have the money to go anywhere other than what I have planned already.

I have to side with those urging you to take a little time for yourself. Having stayed at the office from 8 a.m. - 7:45 p.m. with a Lean Cuisine at my desk for lunch, I totally understand about not being able to take every Friday off or any other large block of time.

But y'know what? A 7 hour day for a couple weeks can be an INCREDIBLE treat. It's not much, but mmm, that extra sleep can be delicious. Or just a snatch of time to read that book you haven't had a chance to pick up, catch up on TV, whatever. Give it to yourself. They wouldn't have it logged as yours if you didn't EARN IT. Let your brain recharge.

If your schedule can afford an occasional 3 day weekend, why NOT stay home in your jammies all day Monday while watching TV or reading? Vacations don't have to be expensive to be relaxing.
