Thoughts and things.

- There is a musing in my head about writers and how some of them write works that are good because they seem to get lost in the world as they see it in their minds while other writers are good because they refuse to get caught up in the sticky parts and are good at conveying the world so you can get lost in it without getting lost in it themselves. I must find a better way to talk about this. My current attempts are clunky at best.
- I still love The Dark Knight. Looking forward to seeing it again tomorrow.
- Comic Con is next week. That feels unreal some how. I will be a crazy monkey running around trying to see all of the things I want to see. It is impossible and I will reach some level of zen about it about this time next week.
- I still love my new hair.
- I am excited to meet Lys and Ivan in person as well as seeing Catie, Laura and Andy. There shall be talking and hanging and dinner and fun.
- Cons are an odd beast. I am still amazed that there are people who I consider to be famous who know who I am. Then again, they are just people like you and me, for the most part. Most of them are just people I would like to have a beer or coffee with and just chat about things. There are layers of famous, you know? While I am a geek and I appreciate that these people create things for me to be geeky about, I mostly find I just want to get to know them, talk about the world and people and everything. I'm always looking to share viewpoints with people who have different perspectives than mine. I want to know how people who aren't me work and why and how they do what they do. Alas, this is hard to do in five minute snippets. (And I have yet to figure out how to get over what to call people. I don't imagine that I know any of these people well enough to address them by first name but ma'am and sir seem impossibly formal. Curse you language!)
- I love comics. I love music. I love cloudy days like today. Now, with that last one, I know many people who would disagree with me, it doesn't seem like there would likely be any sort of confrontation about it. At least not a serious one. With music, I have a broad degree of things I like and I've never gotten into a fight about music, not a serious on at any rate, but I know people who have gotten really worked up about it. Now, comics, on the other hand, like all other fandoms I've ever encountered, seem to bring out everyone's crazy side.
Here is the thing - If you don't like something, that is okay. If you don't like something and I do, this is also okay. If I don't like something and you do, that is perfectly fine. I'm allowed to love what I love and so are you. These things are great. They make the world diverse and strange. For some reason when you get fandom involved this all goes to hell. I cannot count the number of times I've had to leave a discussion because someone refused to be rational and was truly angry about something a writer chose to do with a character. Now, I'm not saying I'm a paragon of virtue here. I've gotten worked up about my share of stuff but just because you think a comic or a show or a movie sucks DOES NOT MEAN that opinion should IN ANY WAY be conveyed to the person who loves it. Also, if you TRULY hate what is being done with a character, stop reading it. Not just stop paying for it but stop entirely - don't read it on scans_daily, don't talk about it, don't go near it if it causes you to foam at the mouth. If it causes you stress and you truly hate it, just STOP IT!
It just frustrates me that there seems to be so much negativity around something that should be fun and enjoyable. Love what you love. Let everyone else love what they love. Stop yelling at each other about it because you don't love the same things. Try to understand why others love what they do and if you can't, move on. No new territory here for me but I continue to be frustrated by this reaction.
