From The Telegraph: "George Bush surprised world leaders with a joke about his poor record on the environment as he left the G8 summit in Japan.

The American leader, who has been condemned throughout his presidency for failing to tackle climate change, ended a private meeting with the words: "Goodbye from the world's biggest polluter."

He then punched the air while grinning widely, as the rest of those present including Gordon Brown and Nicolas Sarkozy looked on in shock.

Mr Bush, whose second and final term as President ends at the end of the year, then left the meeting at the Windsor Hotel in Hokkaido where the leaders of the world's richest nations had been discussing new targets to cut carbon emissions.

One official who witnessed the extraordinary scene said afterwards: "Everyone was very surprised that he was making a joke about America's record on pollution."

Mr Bush also faced criticism at the summit after Silvio Berlusconi, the Italian Prime Minister, was described in the White House press pack given to journalists as one of the "most controversial leaders in the history of a country known for government corruption and vice".

The White House apologised for what it called "sloppy work" and said an official had simply lifted the characterisation from the internet without reading it.

Concluding the three-day event, leaders from the G8 and developing countries proclaimed a "shared vision" on climate change. However, they failed to bridge differences between rich and emerging nations on curbing emissions."

That's like a scene from a bad comedy where someone who can't and doesn't take the office of President seriously has been elected President.

Wait... we're living that nightmare O_o

At the risk of starting to rant, I'm appalled. Its clear that the President and his administration don't believe or refuse to acknowledge the effects pollution has on the larger world but to use it as some weak attempt at humor is shocking. I suppose we could look at it as juvenile attempt at humor as opposed to a somewhat venomous jab at the others present, i.e. "I can do what I want to and you can't stop me!'

Perhaps, I'm giving him to much credit. The man could just be that thick. I'm sure there are many that will downplay this or even snicker about it but the sad truth is that, we as Americans, will be forced to live down the reputation fostered during the present Bush administration for a heck of a lot longer than the eight years of his presidency. I'm not ashamed of America or being an American but I sure as hell am I embarrassed of this sort of behavior.

He also greeted Silvio Berlusconi, the Italian Prime Minister, with "Hola, Hola!"

He must be going crazy. God, that would at least be something.

I met someone on WoW who's German, and she said she couldn't believe we elected that yahoo, let alone RE-elected him. I told her that I didn't vote for the guy and I'm still not sure he won either election. :P

January will not come soon enough.
