Workout tonight.

It sucked.

I don't know what else to say about it right now. I'm mostly better now but earlier was bad. I don't know why it was so bad. I hurt, I hurt a lot. I hurt doing it, I got very angry and... well...

There you are.

I'd like not to do that again.

Sometimes, love, the hardest person to deal with patiently is ourselves.

Try to be as kind about your progress as you would be about others'. *hug*

I've never been very good at that.

What was the hurt like? I'm currious to know if there is something harmfull about your workout.

I do offer encouragement and support on this hard climb. :/

I don't think there was anything truly harmful that the trainer asked me to do. I just had to push really hard and my arms hurt a lot. They don't hurt this morning which seems odd to me since they did so much last night.

Ok, that sounds right.

When you work out your muscles, you incur micro-tears in the muscle tissue. That's normal and the body repairs those tears, which results in stronger and larger muscle tissue. You also build up lactic acid in the muscles, which is a big culprit in soreness.

Being really good about getting lots of water over the day, before, during and after your workouts can help a whole bunch in recovery time and flushing out lactic acid. Potassium is also important. Getting a good shot of protein right after (with 30 minutes ideally) your workout makes a big difference in fatigue, soreness and also results. Otherwise your body tries to cannibalize itself in order to get the resources it thinks it is lacking. This is also why having a good breakfast is important, so your bod doesn't think it's starving and freaks out trying to triage it's resources.

Getting your rest is also critical. Your body needs the downtime of sleep to restore and repair.
Finally, a regular multivitamin really helps to make sure you body has all of the building blocks it needs, and also assures it that it doesn't have to start pillaging itself for those things.

On your off/non-workout days, it's a great idea to take an hour long walk and then do some light general stretching after (never 'bounce' in your stretches btw). This helps to keep you from getting stiff and sore between workouts.

[/busy body]

I really commend you for your dedication. Most folks tend to drop out when the going gets rough like this. You’re a rock star!

Thank you. It is good to have people who know something about this stuff around for the chatting.

What [livejournal.com profile] uberdude said. Plus, don't forget to restock your glycogen levels like we talked about.

It really, really does get easier. Really! But it takes time.

No prob. It's been awhile, sure, but I never forget how hard it was my first couple of months in the gym as a teenager. I was young, dumb, and made of rubber, and it was still grueling until my body finally gave up and adapted.

Every time I lay off working out and go back, and it sucks, I remind myself that it's still easier than those first few months, and the longer I wait the more it'll be like it was then. So yeah. :)
