It begins with the ref blaming, and then wailing and gnashing of teeth...when the fact remains that you had 3-2 and couldn't keep the Pens out to force overtime ON YOUR HOME ICE.
Seriously, us east coast Pens fans are suffering this morning because of this. And the end result, as much as I'd like to see otherwise, will probably be the same. Take heart in that.
Serious respect to Fluery. 55 stopped shots. It was a hell of a performance on his part and I'm seriously impressed. Our inability to get the puck past him and then Hudler's 4 minute sticking penalty (which was totally deserved) ended that game. It was just painful to be within 30 seconds of it and go to overtime.
I don't blame the refs at all. There was one call that I thought was blatantly wrong but that call didn't change anything. There were lots of calls that went unmade last night to allow for the play of the game to continue and I was fine with that. There is no fault of the refs there.
Just the fact that despite the fact that we outshot the Pens by half, we couldn't get one to go in.
I didn't mean to imply there that the penalty wasn't deserved, because it totally was. Hudler has to control his stick. He didn't. He gets a 4 minute penalty. End of game.
I was referring more to elscoobysnacko's post where s/he was goi going off on the two interference calls. Unfortunately, that's the way the rule's currently written, so even though it might be a BS call, it's by no means a bad call - it was called correctly.
Unfortunately, outshooting an opponent means nothing when Fleury was as on as he was last night. If by some miracle the Pens win this thing outright, Fleury, no question, MVP, especially if he can keep up the pace.
I stayed up until 12:15 AM east coast and am paying for every minute of it. :)
Oh, I know. I know. All respect to Fluery. I mean.... Damn. We threw everything at him and none of it went it. The Wings only have themselves to blame for that one. An own goal and some stupid penalties...
Well one was tottaly iffy and the other one wasn't goalie interference he was still goin to the net with the puck and did not impeed with Fleury, who is admazing for how young he is. Though Mulkien needs to be informed of the no shaving during the play offs code. It's no wonder he hasn't gotten a goal in a while, even Crosby who will injure him self if he keeps on hurling him self onto the ice like he did in those Ot's had some facial hair growth. I think Cleary's penalty got called that because Fleury tried to jump on the puck while Cleery was still trying to get it buy him.
