Summit Entertainment is bringing back to the big screen the 1986 sci-fi cult hit Highlander , with Iron Man co-writers Art Marcum and Matt Holloway on board to pen the redo, says The Hollywood Reporter.

The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that Jake Gyllenhaal and Gemma Arterton will star in Prince of Persa: The Sands of Time , Walt Disney Pictures and Jerry Bruckheimer Films' adaptation of Ubisoft's popular video game. Mike Newell is directing.

Nothing will ever make that a good movie. Its charm relies on the professional wrestling, the white sneakers with a tan trench, and the Scottish guy unconvincingly aping a Spaniard. With a katana.

If you take out the lulz, it's just a formulaic heap of crap about a guy who has to kill a bunch of other guys and then gets the girl.

The Immortal/Highlander concept is pretty solid but we've been around and around this area a million times already. The first movie was fun. The TV show was fun. Everything else... Not so much.

And actually it was a Scottish guy unconvincingly aping a Spaniard who was really Egyptian anyway. If I remember correctly.

The anime movie Search for Vengeance was pretty good too. I think there's a lot of prospect for more stories there, just... not with MacLeod's. I loved the 'mini-pilot' they did with Claudia Christian in the one episode of the series. Instead they went with Raven. (I loved the Amanda character, but it just didn't work out in the series.)

I sorta liked the first Highlander...but then I was in grade school. The progressively bad going to horrid sequels completley poisoned those waters for me however.

In retrospect I apreciate the movie "The Hunted" where they admit that Lambert had no skill in swordplay. They had the decency to hit John Lone with a bolt of lightning, drop a building on him, make him face an army of samuria and loose 2 pints of blood before he lost to the terrified no talent white guy.
