Sylvester Stallone is in talks to direct and star in MGM's remake of the 1974 Charles Bronson movie Death Wish.

The chance for NBC's "Scrubs" to go out on its own terms is being jeopardized by the WGA strike, which could leave the final six installments of the comedy's 18-episode last season in indefinite limbo.

Writers Guild of America East writers are now on strike and have been since 12:01 ET Monday morning. The Writers Guild of America West followed at 12:01 PT. Last-minute negotiations collapsed around 9:30 p.m. PT Sunday. The WGA is telling its members that picketing is mandatory, and that each member is expected to picket 20 hours per week.

Most nightly talk shows air the same day as they shoot, so they're going to go black tonight. Jon Stewart has promised to pay his writers two weeks salary out of his own pocket. Currently on air shows probably have 4-5 shows already filmed and should be good through November. Scripted shows that were intended to start later in the season (Lost, 24) probably have most of a season filmed but might delay begining so they can show entire runs, if the strike runs long. Interestingly enough, the next thigs that will likely go to reruns are soap operas, as those usually only run about a week or two ahead of production.

The Associated Press (via CNN) reports that a scene that was to be filmed in Hong Kong for The Dark Knight was cancelled because of pollution in Hong Kong's iconic harbor. There was salmonella and tuburculosis in the water.

All of the reviews I have seen of Beowulf have been extremely positive.

From the NY Times article on Heath Ledger: He tends to do that. He is here in London filming the latest episode of the “Batman” franchise, “The Dark Knight.” (Mr. Bale, as it happens, plays Batman; Mr. Ledger plays the Joker.) It is a physically and mentally draining role — his Joker is a “psychopathic, mass-murdering, schizophrenic clown with zero empathy” he said cheerfully — and, as often happens when he throws himself into a part, he is not sleeping much.

“Last week I probably slept an average of two hours a night,” he said. “I couldn’t stop thinking. My body was exhausted, and my mind was still going.” One night he took an Ambien, which failed to work. He took a second one and fell into a stupor, only to wake up an hour later, his mind still racing.

Have they finally given up on the Sub Mariner?

i like the character, but just never saw how they thought an underwater guy with wings on his ankles would be accepted by modern audiences...

I want to see Beowulf. Looks like we're hitting that "Uncanny Valley" when it comes to CGI.

I've heard nothing but awesome. And that there are things done in the animation that wouldn't work in any other format.
