Frankfurt didn't strike me as TOO bad by comparison to other airports other than guards with Uzis. :(

If you fly through Berlin DO NOT go through Schornfield. Stick with the Berlin airports that start with a "T" like Tengal or Templehof.

If you fly through London, do not go through Standstead. It is half way to Cambridge in the middle of Cambridgeshire. Heathrow is undergoing a massive upgrade so it has a lot of disruptive construction going on. Go through Gatwick instead.

When it is not the busiest airport in the world and the seperation between planes landing is greater the 45 seconds.

These upgrades are long over due and bigger then anything that Heathrow has done in the past. Terminal Five is going to be almost as big as the rest of the airport combined. There is hardely an airport in the world that can't use a new ATC tower. Heathrow is going to get a good one.

It is hot, smelly, very little in the way of passenger enabling to get from one part of the airport or another (though there was a little train... they were just out of order...) and stairs EVERYWHERE. It is crazy dingy as well.

Generally not pleasant.

On my way to Finland in 2001, Frankfurt was the headache of my trip, too. Not much airport staff that ACTUALLY speaks English, confusing signs, and the airport looks more like an Amish market than a frickin' airport.

S'probably gotten worse since then. ;) Sorry you had to endure that. Hopefully the rest of your trip is less frustrating!
