I need to get into a massage therapist. Anyone have any recomendations?

It is cold in my building. Downtown Seattle is freakishly empty out there. There was a lot of ice on the sidewalks as I was walking to the bus stop this morning. My ankles don't seem to be getting better and I'm not really sure what to do about that, either. I mean, the treatment for having pulled the tendons is to stay off of them, so... I mean, it isn't like I can do anymore of that than I am already.

I'm not sure if I'm geetting sick or not. Lemme explain that. I've been taking my allergy meds regularily but I missed Sunday and yesterday because I just forgot. I woke up this morning with tightness in my chest, phlegm in my lungs. Last night walking up the hill to meet Kris made my throat burn. I don't know if I'm having cold issues, allergy issues or my lungs just suck. I sort of feel like my body is betraying me and I'm falling apart. I really hate that feeling. Especially compounded by the general fear of mental degredation that has settled over me in the past month or so.

I think that in some parts, the paranoia has just started to find new things to worry me about and I'll take care of them with time. The old things I have a handle on. Those are generally easier to deal with. I know what those feel like, old friends that they are. I know what the lonely paranoia feels like. I know what the ugly paranoia feels like. I know what the stupid and not good enough and no one loves you and you can't be special or awesome or whatever enough for anyone to come looking for you if you disappear feels like. Those I can fight. Most of the time.

This one is new. This fear of slowly sliding into being helpless and useless.

I'll get it, sooner or later. I'll figure it out.

I really like the snow.

Into a massage therapist... wouldn't that be crowded?

On the other hand, I totally know what you mean. Had such a bad tension headache this weekend I wanted to smash the left side of my face in... and today's only slightly better.

Hm.

Speaking of that, and given I left work 4 hours early...

My (hot!) shower and I have a 45 minute date.

Bai!

Well, I had some severe pain over the weekend and a friend who used to practice made it go away with one move. It relieved that pain and other pain I hadn't even realized I was in anymore.

I used to see a woman named Linda at Hanson Chiropractic in North Seattle. The chiropractic office used to do her appointment book, so you could just call them. It's been more than two years since I've seen her, so I don't know if she's still there, but I bet they'd know where she went if she moved practices.

She was really awesome. She's nice and I was really comfortable around her, and she's a great massage therapist. I adored her.

I hope you feel better soon!

No problem! Feeling icky sucks. And I think it sucks extra in cold weather.

Hopefully you can find a good massage therapist you really like, and feel better shortly after!

I was allergy free for years until I moved out here. Therefore, the intensity of reaction took me by surprise. Allergies are supposed to be an annoying sniffle, not something that lands you in bed utterly unable to breathe or think clearly, right? According to my doctor, more days of work are lost each year for allergies than for actual infection, because in the end, the symptoms can be just as bad (or worse.)

Don't give yourself any shit for having allergies that make you feel utterly miserable. If yours are bad enough, it can be like living through a fog until you find the right combination of drugs to clear them up. If drugs don't clear them up, get shots. Seriously. It'll be worth the return of energy.

Massage...

I go to Melissa at the Ballard Health Center. I think she practices somewhere else too, but I can't remember where. I can find out for you if you're interested.

I really like snow too. I just wish I'd gotten a snow day out of it :)

I've had shots before. I've done the livin through the fog. I've done everything. Maybe I should go in to see an allergist again. Maybe get set up on a new series of shots.

That would be appreciated as Ballard isn't too far for good health care but it is a little further than I'd like to travel if I can find someone good closer.

I didn't get a snow day, either.

Go to the allergist again. I command it. You wouldn't disobey your Pirate Queen, would you?

Allergists aren't real doctors. They are medical technicians. You need an upgrade to your firmware.

All of the people in my network who deal with allergies have MD after their names.

Tsk! Ignore the terminology and obey my commands!

Really, in the end, dealing with a doctor will be easier than dealing with me. :)

I noticed downtown being empty today too.
There were no cars at all on the streets this morning.
Did you know that I work three blocks down the hill from you.
I'm in the Norton Building on 2nd and Columbia.
We should do lunch sometime.

I love the snow too.
I took pictures of the snow on Lake Union the last couple of days.
I havn't had much problems with ice in my 'hood.

Go see the allergest.
Allergy meds only work if you take them.
Take them for a few days.
Don't double up the dose.
If you still feel cruddy then go see the allergest.
I miss my FLONASE.

try arch supports in your shoes and ankle wraps, they do wonders for me and my easily pullable achilles tendons.

I know of an awesome and beautiful massage therapist in Olympia. Ironically, I gave you her contact info a while back. Bonnie Witcher.

I have supports in my shoes already. I'll see about wrapping my ankles. I used to to that.

Heh.

Thanks. Olympia is a bit too far but I'll certainly keep it in mind.

I have this little thing that's like an elastic wrap but it has straps that go under your arch and around your ankle, it sucks in a shoe but around the house it feels great.

I know Elizabeth Finan used to practice on Cap Hill and downtown, but I can't find her contact info any more. Just posting in case you hear her name elsewhere, I guess, so you'll have one more mark in her favor. I haven't seen her myself, but I know lots of people who have and think she's great.
